Re: Feedback
hehe yeah i know, my girlfriend thinks my one two voice is hilarious, but it does the job. remember, no-one at the gig knows you! funny how peoples singing voices can sound really different from speaking and its not so strange.

Re: Feedback
This is a pretty interesting topic as it has evolved into dealing with the "input" problem as we like to call it.
How true it is about the actual "voicing" being applied in a live situation.I've run into many different "input" problems over the years.I'll take a moment to list a few.
Kiddy ensembles! Mommy and daddy told them they sing like birds but forgot to include the Duck in that analogy!
Church choir lady's! Some sing very nice but most when solo haven't a clue as to how to use the mic.Since the preacher stands 5 ft off the podium mic that has to be the right way to do it!
Geezer bands. Yes Elvis is really dead so please stop trying to imitate him.Vegas has that covered!
Newbie Rappers! My absolute worst mixing fear! These guys can do nothing with a vocal. They sound far better on the street corner with no mic singing over a flaming garbage can. But they think they look good cupping that mic like P-Diddy!
Praise bands where the leader cant tell the girl singing shes really bad because it isn't a nice thing to do!
Boot Wedding DJs talking between songs. Yes we are fairly sure you know what you just said, but it sure would be nice if the rest of us had a clue.Of course we can always make a game of it and see who guessed right by going up to the DJ table and asking you what you just said!
El-screamo-kiddie-rockers! Yikes such anger! Ok granted there are guys out there who can do this with extreme control and portray their anger in song....sort of! The rest who try this are usually pretty bad and need to simply stay home and take their Prozac!
Of course theirs always Mary-OKE Karaoke! Gees this is where everyone who figured out how to download from Lime-wire; gathers to profess their love of song..........their way! People clap and applaud their effort no matter how bad! In my day you stayed in the bedroom until you were presentable to the public.Bad hair included!
Rockers who have the band tune down because they cant sing the tune in the right key. Stay away if it's out of your range. Flat is flat and yes us sound guys do notice! Not talking about tuning down to drop D talking about half step tuning to "save my voice"! Yes I am very much aware how much this is done.It just bugs me that's all!
If I offended anyone it's meant to be tongue in cheek humor!
Please take a few moments and fix your own "input" problem!
Don't get me started on bad sound guys now!

If I may poke fun at myself a little more. I need to record it and play it back, I am most likely like the american idol wanna be that would have been better off if some one told them the truth, instead of going in front of Steven Tyler, J-Lo, and everyone else to find it out. BTW if you try out for the show and the judges and the crew are laughing you might as well stop sining and try to have some fun with it.
Hey now! The only reason they can't normally hear me is the feedback is squealing like a swine orgy! Oh and the mumbling thing too. But besides that....oh and the shotty mics I was using...I think thats it. Besides those minor items there is no excuses.Ron K wrote: Boot Wedding DJs talking between songs. Re: Feedback
How many filters are usually needed in live sound? Obviously the more the better if you need them but on a usual day how many are needed?

Re: Feedback
It is a function of how much gain you want.
With a band I play in, I don't have to notch anything with the exception of 1 gig (1 notch in 3 years). Very quiet stage.
As you increase the stage volume you will need more and more filters. I have used as many as 3. You reach a point where if they can't hear it, well, get some in ears and leave everyone elses alone.

Re: Feedback
depends on the room hugely. outdoors is usually the easiest, with very few problems of feedback (unless silly levels)How many filters are usually needed in live sound? Obviously the more the better if you need them but on a usual day how many are needed?

Re: Feedback
I am asking to figure out what kind of gear I should start looking for. Should I be looking at 3 filter gear,6?12? Guess I am in the dark on what they come in.

Re: Feedback
Get a 31 band eq. Its not that you need that many cuts, its that it gives you the most choice as to where those cuts are.
Most engineers wont accept less than a 31 band eq on every monitor mix and main mix.
