Crown for monitor and v amp

#1 Post by Scott Brochu »

My band just got the Xls 1000 for duty on bass players monitor from one channel and his new V amp head on the other.
I all ready have an amp for one monitor mix and I just want to run a link form one amp to the other.
The source for the next feed would be from a Mackie amp into the crown.
Is this a good thing or does it matter?
Do I just run the 1/4" (or do I use the other input channel xlr as the out to the other amp?) cable out of the mackie and into the xls input one (channel1)?
The other input source (channel2) on the amp will be from his v amp.

Ok checked out Crown site and if I am reading right than I can only link by 1/4" cables and not xlr - xlr.

Checked out Mackie site and looked at the Mackie1400 which I have and I think it has a xlr out on each channel so- xlr out of that and xlr into the channel one on the crown.

It sucks not having the equipment infront of you and an hr away from playing at the gig.

The Mackie 1400 is xlr out so just use that into the Crown.Simple and effective.

I hooked it up via the xlr out of the Mackie and into the crown and it worked fine for that channel. I had a W10 and it was maxed all the way up. He complained he could not hear it well.

The other side was suppose to be for the v amp.

and I thought I knew what to do but like I told him; If you get a new toy, know how to use and hook it up before a gig. :wall:
I told him it was like water follow the signal. From your bass it flows through the V amp and out of the back into the main board into a channel. Than from there the signal is put through the FOH. If he wants his TB on stage he needs to take that signal at the board and give power to power his TB on stage.
Something happened and it was 15 min before the gig and needless to say he didn't have his TB on stage running but the W10 worked and it played his bass (which I thought was enough) and vocals and was a good night. 6 more shows booked.

I think I needed to take the signal from FOH amp and run a thru signal to the channel powering the TB on stage.

anyone know from the factory of crown what omh they are set too? Like I said I had the one channel hooked up to the w10, is that at 8 omhs and 215 watts?or?

Yes. Actually a tad higher but off hand I dont know how much more impedance is added by the horn load with a wedge horn10.

The xls are good to 2 ohms per channel but I would resist running them as such.

The XLS1000 driving 8 ohm does 215W per channel indeed. I don't think the short horn of the WH8 and WH10 add significantly to the driver impedance (Bill may want to confirm?), so for WH10 with 8 ohm driver it would be getting 215W. Seems to me like a pretty good match actually.

We have used the new crown xls 1000 for a few gigs set up for monitor duty. It was daisy chained to the Mackie amp I have for the other monitors.
I have also tried taking a direct signal from 1 of the 6 channels on the DCX2496.
Both ways work fine for my bassist to have full mix including a bit more bass out of his monitor (W10).

Now incase we need more of bass on stage we have the Omni15Tb just sitting there. I have tried to hook it up so he can have the wedge (w/fullhouse signal) and the Tb just having his Bass come through. It don't work. :wall: I guess I can only have one or the other.

The signal from his V amp
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Behringer-B ... 1145399.gc
has to go into the board or there will be no front of the house sound coming from the bass. Cause I tried to run the signal from the V amp into the crown than back to the TB and it still didn't work.

I need help engineers........... :noob:
