I don't care for the layout of the Midas consoles.
The Digi SD7 is sweet tho.
Check out the A&H iLive... that's a sweet board too.

At a trade show perhaps five years ago I asked the Digico rep about their consoles using Windows for the base OS. His response bothers me far more than the choice of software: "Eh, you know... it's Windows."

I can't ever consider recommending or even using one because of that comment.

Before I was a software engineer, I was a network admin. Let's just say that I'd be concerned about the Blue Screen of Death happening in the middle of a show.

DigiCo is an awesome board and fairly easy to use.

Personally if I was dropping the coin I'd look at a Digidesign!

The I-Live is nice for the money.

Digidesign also runs on a windows based platform and is extremely stable. It uses xp-pro and 7.

Sure windows has had some bad OS over the years. ME was absolutely terrible. However xp runs solid and from what I'm hearing 7 isn't bad either but Vista is crappy.

This machine has xp-pro on it and has "never" given the BSOD. It's over 5 years old as well and when I first built it, it was a hard core gaming machine for FPS games and has been running 10% overclocked since it's birth! I dont game anymore because I really dont have the time and it started getting boring but none the less Windows xp has done me quite well.

DiGiCo are manufactured just a few miles from me in Scotland. Was at a demo of a few of their desks a few weeks ago. Some sweet pieces of gear. :) a local company uses them and it's pretty good being able to phone up the factory and 'borrow' another desk for a show. Their customer support is excellent.

Oh and I meant to say, even if the windows computer crashes, you can reboot it without Interupting the audio processing itself, so there is no audio cutout during a show.
