Tritrix

#1 Post by SeisTres »

Wait? why I'm I reviewing this design, you ask?

I forgot on what thread I had posted about them and someone said to let him know how they turned out once I finished them. As I do not plan to go through about 50 threads to find it, I just made a new thread. So here it goes.

Complete waste of money and time :( (considering I could have built more sla's)

I mean, I was being realistic and I wasn't expecting $500 performance, but I guess i've been severely spoiled by current set up. After firing them up I thought I had messed up so I checked and rechecked connections, crossovers, and polarities but turns out nothing was wrong. And I don't really mean it is a bad design, but turns out it's just your generic mtm that cab be cheaply bought from dayton or mcm. To put it simply, I would compare them to this http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdet ... er=300-652 but only a few db's louder, more expensive, and bigger.

What sucks is that they are a gift to my brother and I thought they were going to be really good for his new HT system. I guess the only good thing about this is that the cab does have better dispersion for his use, it looks cool and he will definitely not push the TT as they don't keep up at all

The Tritrix looks to be OK if you want a pretty much traditional MTM. The woofer response is suspect, though, as the chart doesn't go below 200 Hz. I'm sure it's no competition for David.

I haven't heard the davids but judging by the fact that each mtm gets it's own sub, then yes, they do no keep up with the davids. The other thing was that once I started turning 'em up to try to match levels by throwing more watts at them, they began distorting.

Like I said I wasn't expecting a miracle, but I was expecting better performance than a $100 tower.

yep, I opted to go with that particular design to make them floorstanding and decided against the smaller closed small box mtm.

Very sad indeed as I was planning on building a set of these. I know I read on another forum that PE was putting some wrong parts in the Xover kits for a while that was supposedly ruining response. Perhaps you got some wrong parts. Maybe you should check against what you should have and what you got.

Nah, ordered the kit and it came with the correct parts. It's not that they sound bad or anything, but I would rather build more line arrays than the tower. However, if you're doing the mtm's in the small enclosure, then I think this might be more practical as the build difficulty and space requirements are decreased.

However, with the center channel, the two daytons for surrounds, and the Table tuba, the system as a whole sounds good and my brother has been very happy with it. But like I said, my sla's get my vote.
