What brought you here?
Hey fellow audio lovers!
I'm curious what kinds of background everyone here has and what brought you to this great community. Personally, I originally found out about BFM cabs through car audio (heard crazy things about a horn loaded sub for a car) and then once I formed a band that needed a PA system, I remembered all the other things I saw here that piqued my interest. Now I've built cabs for my DJ/Karaoke business and went so far as to become an Authorized Builder.
You can choose up to 3 choices in the poll, so pick all that apply. If you'd like, please share some details about what brought you here.

Re: What brought you here?
Me neither. Same error msg.
I was looking for plans for a diffraction horn to go with a scoop bin system I was planning when a pic of the curved SLA centre came up. Since then shelved the scoops + a gazillion watts/tons of amps for better technology and better science which equal better sound with less upheaval.

Tripped onto this site...I think it was a link from another forum? I dunno, I wasn't looking for anything,.... ha!, or not even looking. Anyway, I found this site highly informative and very appealing since I always wanted my own PA, HT system and I play bass. Oh yeah, I always wanted a good sub voor de auto

Poll not working
However, what brought me here is that after I broke up with my band, I kept yamaha tops and wanted some subs. As I was REALLY broke I spend nights trying to figure out how to get the most amount of bass for the least amount of money and able to fit in a sedan.
What I came up with was some 15" loaded cabs and then I would replace the driver with the highest watt rated driver
At this point in time, I thought the commercial boxes were "magical" and DIY for pro sound was the stupidest thing ever. However, I found this site and since I already knew a tad about sensitivity, it actually sounded too good to be true. So, I was VERY skeptical and thought it was a load of
.
Of course, if I had even built a speaker before in my life I would just have skipped this site and just built something from a speaker website with free plans, but I hadn't so I went ahead and ordered the cd.
Forward two years later ...(check my sig)

I don't build fast enough nor am I enough of a business man to make money on building cabs. Kudos to those who do.

Re: What brought you here?
I'm just a novice home-car audio DIY-er and started reading threads about the THT over on AVSforum. That sparked my interest about this place and BFM designs. Since joining, I mostly lurk, read and absorb everything I can.
I do hope maybe one day to work in the audio/production field, if even as side work.

Re: What brought you here?
After coming to the realization that Bill Fitzmaurice was a fountain of knowledge at Talkbass, I decided to look at his weird speakers. Man they looked weird. The claims seemed to good to be true, and I had been toying with the idea of an extension speaker for my bass combo.

Re: What brought you here?
Bass player, sound for own band's shows, occasional sound for other bands.
Like Gauss, I wandered in here from the talkbass forum. I had a couple of Avatar cabs in a cart on a shopping site and stopped here before I clicked the "buy now" button. I removed the items from the cart. Next thing I know I'm building an Omni 10. Then an Omni 10.5. Then Wedgehorns. Etc...
I'm not an old timer like some of the guys here, but I actually started in the days before speakerhardware.com, when you had to source all of your parts from Parts Express and such. It is SO much nicer now with speakerhardware, it makes it so simple.

Re: What brought you here?
A DJ buddy of mine found the site and wanted to build a T48 for his use. I happened to be the only one he knew with a garage, woodworking tools, and an interest in audio. Built the T48 for him...then started plotting my own system. I'm a DJ who has expanded into PA systems for large dance competitions.
