Clamps for Canadian builders
Clamps for Canadian builders
Just got an email saying the Mastercraft F-clamp clamps are going to be 60% off for the week starting Dec. 31 at Canadian Tire. I'm planning on stocking up.
I'm going to be building a TT in the new year, and am in the process of assembling the required parts and tools...
To the more experienced builders out there, how many clamps do you generally use when glueing up a Tuba cabinet?

Just as there's no such thing as too much beer there's no such thing as too many clamps.matt996 wrote:

Re: Clamps for Canadian builders
I needed about 4 more clamps than I had...at least I needed four more small or medium or large clamps than I had. In a typical clamping scenario:
Two clamps on the guide board
Two clamps new panel to the guide board
One clamp to help align the top the new panel with the existing build
Three clamps to hold the carcass to the assembly table
So that's eight clamps...in various sizes.
I would get eight of the clamps in the link. Or maybe 12... Having 12 is at least 50% better than having 8.

Confirmed by the flyer: 60% off F or C clamps and other clamps. Also : 20% off PL Premium.
I don't use enough clamps for sure. Buying more is a good idea.
I'm also considering the 4800W garage heater at 20% off and the snow blower, but that is probably not relevant to post it here

Re: Clamps for Canadian builders
Thanks for that Matt, I'll have to drop by good ol' Crappy Tire next week to pick up a few.
I can't comment on the Tuba, but for each panel on the titan I needed a minimum of 4 clamps per panel (2 held the guide board in place and two held the panel to the guide board). Plus I needed 2 or 3 longer ones to apply downward pressure on the panels as I was attaching them to the sides. You'll also need longer clamps when attaching the final side. I bought some C-clamps but I wish I hadn't as they are more cumbersome and the additional force isn't necessary. The F clamps work great.

Just goes to show you how weird Canucks are. A tire store that sells F-clamps and coffee makers.
I thought I saw a Home Depot when I was Toronto?
Home Depot has a bunch of the Irwin packs for $20 right now. Has four of the quick clamps (2 of each of the "mini" sizes), two of the handi-clamps that have a squeeze ratchet, and two spring loaded clamps. They're generally located around where all the gift stuff was in the front of the store.

No, Home Depot does not.
But Canadian Tire does! And, according to their slogan a bunch of years past they "sell more than just tires".

No worse than drugstores here, which seem to sell everything but drugs.Tom Smit wrote:No, Home Depot does not.![]()
