First gig with a dual lab12 T60

#1 Post by Dave Non-Zero »

Hi,

Ive finally finished my first of a planned pair of t60. You might have seen my build thread Dave's T60 build thread that i posted the other day. It ended up a very rushed build to get one of the cabs finished in time for a Dub/D&B club night in my local student union.

here is a picture of the cab before sealing it up, as you can see, i didnt have time to paint it as this was on the afternoon of the gig and i still needed to get there and set up!

Image

The set up for this club night is usually 4xt48 and 4xdr280 in a fairly small capacity concrete bunker of a venue in the student union. Having tried various placements for the subs ive ended up just clustering them in front of the dj booth and firing straight into the dance area. Yes its not perfect but at least it gets bass on the dance floor. Corner loading in the only available corner with 6xt48 actually had a null at the dance floor. :(

the system is run from a driverack PA to yamaha p5000 for tops and yamaha p7000 for the t48s. usually 35-100hz for subs.
this time i added a behringer ep4000 (950wpc @4 ohm) to run the t60 from 25-50hz, and shifted the t48s up to 50-100hz.

I didnt have any time at all to experiment so i just ran with that.

The t60 was placed on the other side of the room, at the edge of the L of the room.

Image

hope that makes sense. its a wierd room. And that pic is not really to scale. :?

fired up the system and Boom, it worked first time! :noob: :hyper:

All the DJs for the night were standing next to the t60 and going Wooooooowww every time a track dropped. ;)

i cant wait to try this system in a big enough area for it to breathe properly. im pretty sure i will be more than happy with the depth and output.

Image

oh yeah and we strapped a couch on top and got plenty of 'Passengers' All night. :D :loler:

So what was your initial impression of the T60? I know you mention not getting a chance to properly test but was it a wash or did it reinforce the low end at all?

it was pretty intense output. i dont kno the voltage i was running because of time limits, but there wasnt a flicker of a red light all night.
that room is a cancellation nightmare, so ill need to try it again in a bigger venue to really know how low it goes.

If I had the pack space I'd be very inclined to lug one of these around...

Probably the same reason as New England, where the classic 'New Englander' house started off as a four room Colonial or Cape Cod, got an addition every thirty or forty years with the next generation of owners, and eventually became the architectural equivalent of a patch-work quilt.

its actually the product of 1960's british obsession with concrete ugly block buildings. unfinished concrete and steel interiors and strange shapes that make most of it barely usable for anything. i didnt draw the rest of the level, which heads off toward the entrance with another L shape. such a dumb use of space....

Thank god they are beginning to demolish the concrete multi-story flats around my town. 4 gone in the last few years, and several more going soon!

Very doable with a T60 slim. Couldn't be any more uncomfortable than a futon, and at least you get bass. Could even be a bed for some folks.
Good food, good people, good times.

Wow, how tall of a bed do you guys have?! I have my bed resting about 4'' off the ground, so it probably wouldn't work...

That would be quite an experience, 4 t48's for kick, and a t60 for rattle. Yeesh.

I'd be curious to see how it sounds at different crossovers since the t48's are good to 35hz in a pack of 4. On the other hand, the sensitivity swings to the T60 starting at 60hz, so perhaps a 55-60hz crossover is the best use of each speaker's efficiency? But then you wouldn't be utilizing the maximum power handling of the T48's. I bet that experimentation will be a bone-rattling-good time. :loler:

Not nearly tall enough. I said she "wanted" it... didn't say she would "get" it. haha
Now... maybe "beside" the bed... hmmmm
