I would stay away from behringer mixers if possible.

But saying that, I had this two mic (5channel) behringer mixer which might actually work great in your situation, however, it did not have effects, but all the new ones come with effects anyways. Since it's just karaoke, and recorded music playthrough, the pre-amp won't be all that important as if it was for live band use or recording, and the effects are useable on the behringer. But you can't go wrong with yamaha for anything.

I have that little Yamaha mixer and am very happy with it. I keep it hooked up to my computer with a usb interface. It gives me flexibility in testing equipment, controlling multiple inputs, and is just a great small mixer for the times when I do not needs large one. Get the model with both the compressors and effects. If 4 mic inputs would suit tor needs better it does have a big brother however I like the size of this unit for the purpose that I use it for.

I have the Behringer Eurorack UB1202 mixer that I use for a similar application.

Works great and I've had it about two years now, no issues with it at all. Sound pretty transparent to me. Doesn't have FX, but at $79.99 you could get a cheap EFX unit and use it with the Aux on this mixer.

The Behringer is not bad but the Yamaha is a better quality. There are two versions of the Yamaha. One is$ 100 and does not have the effects but it still has the compressors. This feature alone makes it worth it.

I picked up one of the Alesis USB Multimix mixers for a backup and to do my new karaoke show with the built-in effects. Cool thing is it also has a guitar-level input switch on one of the channels, so we also use it as our practice mixer at home.

Knobs instead of faders, but if you don't care about that, it's pretty solid piece of kit for $130.

Also comes with Cubase LE and has a built-in USB sound card, which is higher quality than most notebook computer onboard sound controllers. Haven't played around with it enough yet, but it seems like you should be able to add a lot more effects or even MIDI voices using something like GarageBand.

I usually stick with the Yamaha boards, but this little guy was what I was looking for - compact and enough inputs to be a backup, or wedding ceremonies away from the reception.
