If you tell how to clamp.....I'll show you my baffle!! (read

#1 Post by bean438 »

So the SLA curve baffle is all cut and ready to glue. I have to say this was the most satisfying thing I have done so far.

I have PL premium, regular wood glue, and gorilla glue. The plans say to use PL turbo, but I cant find any.

I was able to clamp the whole baffle, BUT the parts could be separated with very little pressure, but they did hold.

Am I over thinking the clamping thing? WHen they say PL expands I am getting thoughts of massive psi hydrostatic pressure exerted on the pieces.

How tightly do things need to be clamped?

I am at a complete loss as to clamping this thing tightly, so any creative ideas, or tips, jigs, etc?

Here is my baffle, I am so proud. I screwed up many other things so far, and the SLA baffle went without a hitch. I thought this piece would have been the most trouble:

If your joints are tight you can use a woodworking glue. Brush it on the mating surfaces for a total bond. The key is that the assembly not be disturbed while it sets, preferably overnight. Regular PL could push the sections apart.

The joints are very tight, all cuts as smooth as glass thanks to my new festool plunge saw.

Wood glue it is then, but 3-2 piece sections for tonight and tomorrow I glue it all together.

Thanks Bill.

I had that issue with mine and PL. Aggravating for sure.

Parts all cut and ready to glue. But I will wait until I get the drivers in case I have to route the sides for the drivers to fit:

Question for you guys. Of course I will trim all the edges up nice with a router, and I will 1/4 round as well.

But for the top and bottom piece will 1/4 rounding the inside edges be a problem where the baffle meets the edge? I am thinking no because the sides will be 1/4 rounded as well. But obviously I 1/4 round the inside edge before I glue the baffle.

Do I have that right?

You could easily set the baffle back a quarter inch and then no problems. I routed the outside and left the inside square.

I'll route the panels first, and then slide the baffle to the point it looks good.
