Helpful hints on how to build 'em, and where to get the stuff you need.

PL turbo substitute?

#1 Post by bean438 »

I cant find PL turbo, but I have some gorilla glue, which seems to be the same as PL premium.

I need to glue the curved SLA baffle and bill suggests to use a fast setting adhesive that sets within minutes.

The plans talk about a glueing jig for this baffle, but do you really need a jig to glue it?

I was thinking a bead of PL premium and clamp and wait.

Suggestions?

Original Gorilla glue sucks. IMHO. The new white Gorilla glue is pretty good. I'd use it for an Slah. Not for a sub though.

Leland, all the gorilla glues need long clamping times except for their super glue.

I cant find PL turbo anywhere, even the companies own website.

Cant I just use PL premium for the curve baffle? Is it that hard to clamp 2 pieces that are 5 degrees? Its not much of an angle.

As far as i can tell it would just take a little longer to do with PL premium.

This is what I use and is the most widely available of the expanding 100% polyurethene glues here in NZ

As I recall I did my slah with Titebond II. These aren't going to get abused like a PA box. And yes they will clamp with a little creativity.

Hey Harley would you use that as a PL premium substitute for use in in sub woofer construction or just for the sla? I'm also from NZ?

Considering PL is not available here, nor can it be shipped here - you have no choice really.
