Generators??

#1 Post by lownotes182 »

Never had to do a gig with a generator before, so I have no idea about the topic. Is my equipment safe to run on one? I have 4 Omni Top 12s running on an xti 2000 and 4 Titan 48s running on a macrotech 2402. I would really hate to turn down the gig because of this, but I don't want to blow my stuff!! Any help on the topic will be greatly appreciated. What would I need to make it work? :feedback:

Make sure its quiet and constant output and of course full of gas! It's possible to run from a generator without issue but just make sure it isn't one that increases and decreases when the load changes!

do you have one ?? or plan to buy or rent??

in my experience gen power is somewhat weak so aim for about twice power than needed and many times you will need a 240v power distributor cause you can unleash all its power only by its 240v plug other than that i reccomend to try it with all your equipment before the gig
There is a very thin line between fail and success. It is very thin so, why are you scared???

May be wise to hire an electrician for an hour before setting up. I am a commercial photographer and was photographing in a warehouse run by a large pull behind generator. The person from the warehouse was in charge of setting up the generator, and all my strobe power packs got fried. I got a hold of an electrician and it was found out that the generator was set up to 150 volts. (They did pay for the repairs)

I am going to be using one that is provided by the venue. Lady said it was 8000 watt Honda. Think the electrician is a good idea, and I happen to have a good friend that can help me out with that. Thanks for all of the info. I will probably not have an issue, but wanted to be kinda sure. This is for a benefit where I will be providing background music from the 50's and 60's and be an MC for some give-a-ways, etc... Shouldn't need too much juice. I will probably power the whole thing off of my macrotech since it is a little more robust. Thanks guys!!
