Drill Driver combo opinions

#1 Post by rec »

Hello all, I am thinking about the following drill/driver combo
Anyone using these? I have really only had dewalt stuff other than the Bosch jigsaw that I bought per recommendations on this site.
Might I add I have been very happy with the jig saw.
So any opinions are appreciated, help me spend my money

I now use the Hitachi equivalent micro impact driver for everything. Don't need anymore power and the compact size and battery life is just awesome. The bigger drill with grip chuck is just extra..
The clutch failed on your (Bosch) grip chuck drill for me after only a few months. Now it's collecting dust.

I have the Makita combo kit for work, and the Ryobi kit for home. They're both good. I don't see much use for the impact driver for speaker building, but use it all the time at work.

i have an 18v RIGID impact/drill driver kit. i thought i would hardly ever use the impact, boy was i wrong. now, as a carpenter, i dont know how i ever got by without one! Bosch makes good stuff, im sure you'll be happy with it, just register the warranty if they have one. i leaned towards RIGID because of their awesome warranty.

warning:those little impact driver are stronger than they look. you can easily break screws/bits/concrete anchors/put-a-screw-straight-through-a-deckboard if youre not carefull. but ive never done any of those things...... :fruit:

Well the reason that I was thinking of buying something is that the clutch on my B&D drill locked up recently.
last night I figured there was nothing to loose and put the drill between my feet and cranked down on the clutch coller with both hands and it finally came free and appears to be working correctly. So I guess I am only in the market for one of the impact driver at this point. I have used my neighbors Dewalt and it seems to be pretty nice. I guess if I stick with any of the major brands I will be ok.
Thanks

Look at the Porter-Cable drill/circular saw kit at Lowes. Top quality, dirt cheap.

For everyday value, that Porter Cable set is hard to beat. It's not Li-Ion, but it'll take those batteries later if you decide to get them.

I found a smoking deal on a 18V Li-Ion Milwaukee kit. You just have to keep trolling fatwallet and slickdeals - the crazy deals on tools come around every couple months.

I have the Makita set. I have used the Dewalt and some others. My whole family are contractors and everyone who works with us seems to end up getting the Makitas when they need a new set. The are awesome. I use the impact way more than the regular drill. Especially for small spaces or when I am drilling holes with the drill and setting screws with the impact. I found the Dewalts heavy and the Hitachis handle flares near the battery so it was uncomfortable for my hands. The white smaller Makita set is a great value too and are SUPER light. I bought a belt clip and walk around with the small impact on my pants pocket like a tape.

I bought my wife one of the white l-ion drills last christmas. It's a really really good tool. I get yelled at quite often about using it.
