Where is the Arauco???

#1 Post by SeisTres »

I checked lowes as was thinking about buying a sheet of Arauco and Lo and Behold! I could not find it  And I just don't mean in my store, I mean in their inventory! Now actually HD carries arauco but it's 23/32.

Does this mean we will not be able to get arauco anymore?

I guess now I'll have to use BB for my dr's too :wall:

Is anyone coming up with the same results, or is it just my area???

I just checked the Lowes here, and they don't have it either. I am getting ready to build an Autotuba, so now what.

since it's not fro pro sound, mdf is actually pretty ok. Easier to spilt or crumble but it does fine for speakers and the finish is really quite nice. It is also a little cheaper. Just remember to paint it and protect it from humidity as they do not play well at all :(

OH yeah, and just make the spacer ring from something that's more solid.

if you drill pilot holes this is not a problem. However, you do have to be careful if using a drill as it will easily overturn (I have no idea what's the correct term for this). That and also the mdf dust sucks.

-1 on MDF. Go for a five-ply spruc/pine/fir instead. (with the usual void-free layers.....)

lowes in Minnesota has it for about $35 per sheet  . Menards has Aruaco for $25 each, but im guessing you dont have menard's stores in TX. at my local stores, a sheet of MDF is about the same price. im planning on building an autotuba out of MDF only because i have a bunch of scraps that i got for free. if i was buying materials i would get aruaco.

That would suck if Lowes quit carrying Arauco.

It has never been available here in Northeast Florida either. I went as far to check Georgia and Alabama stores, no such luck.
