A question about black duratex...
A question about black duratex...
Hey... you guys might find this a little funny or vane, BUT...
Black Duratex isn't really all that black is it? I only saw it in person once and it was dj tecthreat's omnitops. But from what I remember of that and all the pictures its more like a super dark green or grey.
I know its kind of silly but I want BLACK. Like SUPER black. BLACK as you can get. Anyone know what my options are?
I used that truck bed stuff from wallmart once for a small vented 12". The colors what I want but I never gigged with this thing or anything and it doesn't seem like you guys recommend it much.

Black Duratex is black. At least the several pails I have are.

It's lighter before it dries. Then it gets darker. Then, as gets scuffed and worn over time, it lightens up a bit. But it should be pretty darn black when it a fully-cured fresh coat.

It's black.
Re: A question about black duratex...
Guys, as I look through every black duratexed speaker in the reviews section, the black handles, corners (plastic and metal), dish plates, grills etc. are noticeably darker and contrast with the paint. I might be crazy for thinking its green but I don't think I'm crazy for thinking its a lighter color. Maybe they are not fully cured fresh coats but I still think I'm looking for something else and just want to know what other things people have tried.
Re: A question about black duratex...
I think the only way you will get "blacker" is black oil base paint.
Re: A question about black duratex...
I put a couple PA handles and corners and stuff up against my sub I was talking about. Seemed like they were a better color match than the pics.

Black DuraTex is black. If the hardware in the pics looks different it's because of the different reflective properties of the hardware.

Bill beat me to it.
It's black, and it doesn't get any blacker than black.

Fair enough. I'm gonna order a small can and see if I like it.

Re: A question about black duratex...
I may be wrong, but I think the difference between the Duratex and the hardware, rather than being a difference in color, is a difference in finish. Think of paint from the hardware store. You get a different look from a flat vs. satin vs. eggshell vs. high gloss finish even if they are the same color paint.

Definitely has a greenish tint when wet, especially the spray grade. It's black when cured.

Unless there's a female trolling here, we're all men. It's black. There is no "shade" of black.
Although the next time I need help picking out curtains, I know who to ask.
This is with one coat of Duratex on top of flat black Sherwin-Williams acrylic primer. The access panel has no Duratex on it, only the primer. You can make out the wood grain below the primer.
