Dave Perry....I Live in the United Kingdom
35 years old, married with two fantastic little kids, 1 & 2 years old..

I work as a design engineer in the housing market designing foundations, steelwork, roofs, floor joists all on Cad and other associated PC software. Basically I get sent Architects drawings and have to make them stand up..

I have been playing Bass since I was about 16 years old. Always obsessed with headless basses...I built this aluminium necked bass when I was about 19. LED's on the neck. http://www.frappr.com/?a=viewphoto&id=1 ... myphotos=1
I now own a lovely custom 5 string Status bass made by Rob green of Status graphite - far better at making basses than I could ever be....!!

Always enjoyed building things (comes from my fathers practical engineering upbringing - he built a 38' steel schooner single handed)

Used to build flight cases for myself and others...no proffit in it now..not got the lobes for it.

Built several bass cabs in the past, all dreadfull. Owned just about every manufacturer of Bass gear and only receantly got into the Pa side of things. PA is probably my most enjoyable side of the live band situation at the moment.

Love standing in with other bands for one off gigs - always gets the fingers moving faster.....Last interesting gig was with a Pink floyd tribute band we did all of dark side of the moon, and most of the pulse set. Fantastic band, but sadly they are went full time Pro, and I aint giving up my job for a bunch of dodgy musicians....Great stuff floyd.

I always look at something and think...yeah thats great, but how can it be improved....Learnt bass playing along to Rush non stop..Geddy you rule..

The DR290 build has become one of my most obsessive things I have done.

Very pleased to be part of this Forum

Dave

Hello All,
My name is Dave Hough and I live in California halfway between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe. I'm coming up on 40 this year and married with a 3 year old daughter.

I have a very small DJ/Pro Sound "hobby" that I run on evenings and weekends. Usually I'm doing weddings, Parties, or supplying live sound reinforcement for a garage band somewhere. I make just enough to spend it all on my other hobby; 4 wheeling.

My audio background consists of car audio installation for 15 years, and I've been making speakers ever since I could hold a saw and use a soldering iron. I did a small stint as a club DJ a spun everything from House music to Hip Hop.

Basically I'm a pro sound junkie. I do the gigs just to justify the purchases I make :D
Built so far:
AutoTuba. TAT, T18, T30, T39, SLA, SLA Pro, DR200, Omni 12TB, Omni 12 Sub, Omni 10.5,

Hi everyone

I'm (another) steve from the uk, manchester. I'm an amateur bass player searching for that elusive tone, and I'm going to build an omni 10 or two omni 10.5's (still considering my requirements at this stage). I've built a 1x15 ported reflex cab before and I'm no stranger to wielding tools, so fabrication shouldn't be too much of a problem.

After that who knows, I might look into a PA system for my band, but one thing at once.....

Hi there

Im Will, im 21, from up in Scotland and this is going to be my first worth while wood-working project!

I just bought the plans for the Omni10 the other night, and am really looking forward to getting this going!

I dont have the time right now unfortunatly, im a 3rd year Biochemistry student at the University of Dundee, so, i dont have much spare time!

I play bass in a punk band mainly, but i play alot of blues and jazz solo in my own time, i play through a number of basses, my two favoutires being my matching HH Stingrays, fretted and fretless :D , I mainly use an Ampeg SVT-II through a Marshall 8x10 sealed cabinet. The omni 10 is basically so i have a light weight but good sounding cab! Im also thinking of selling my backup amp (peavey firebass) for a Genz Benz Neo Pak 3.5, and using that with the omni10 for a lightweight setup :)

Hi. I'm David Robinson from Jacksonville, FL. I'm a musician (keys and bass) primarily, and run sound on a small scale (my bands and a couple of others).

I found out about Fitzmaurice loudspeakers via the Carvin BBS.

Not sure if this is the right place to put this, but I was wondering about BF himself. What is the history behind his designs, his background, etc....
Thanks

Hello

My name is Bryan. I'm from Tulsa, OK. I've been playing anything with strings since i was about 12, but i mainly concentrate on bass. I just started my first project today, a pair of O10.5s. I was debating on whether or I should make a full size O10 but settled on 2 halfs for more versatility. It will be powered with an EA iAmp350.

Hello,

My name is Pete Walsh, I live in Maryland and my present day job is doing materials science and engineering. Previously spent a decade designing and building boats on the coast of Maine, then another stretch becoming a scientist. I am not an experienced audiophile - merely a bass player looking to realize a compact, low mass, efficient and inexpensive bass cabinet to pair with a GK 700RB-II. I am considering an Omni 10, pair of 10.5's or DR250. New to the area of audio but not the DIY concept and I am looking forward to interacting with the good folks on this forum.

Greetings All.

My name is Ron Kreiger age 46 and I started building my own cabs and designs back in 1986. I stumbled onto Bills site a few weeks ago in search of some tops for a new system that I decided to put together. I currently use an all JBL loaded Horn System. I also have a smaller system of 6 Old Altec A7s cabs that I reloaded and redesigned for EV 15 B drivers.

I work as the FOH Engineer for a North East Pa based band called Blacksmyth.

Looking forward to meeting everyone and learning some new things here!

I chose the DR-290s as the top project.

I'm Jay and I am getting back into music (bass playing) after raising my boys. It's time for my own projects. I've been thinking about building a folded horn cabinet for some time and the more time I put into studying designs the more confused I get. I am trying to get back into this on the cheap. I was going to build a cabinet using a 12 inch speaker that I picked up on ebay and later trade up to a high quality 15. Now, after finding this site, it seems that I will have to trade up to a high quality 10inch??!? So, I've got to change my direction a little. Smaller horns, better output.

Two questions, for anybody really, first, if horns are so good, why do the amp manufacturers only sell ported and un-ported cabinets? The cynic in me says it's easier for them to make money on a 1000 watt amp and a box full of drivers than a 400 watt amp and a single driver in a horn. Is it really that simple?

Second question, is it only us bass players that want to push some air around with they horns?

I think I'm done searching for horn data, I'm settling here. You guys are stuck with me!

Yup. Six sided box loaded with drivers, sells for the same money. Less labor, less materials. If you look around you'll find folded horns. EV, JBL, Mackie makes one I think. They're all expensive, and they're all heavy. 3/4" material and no bracing is cheaper than 1/2" material and bracing. Again, less labor. Add to it the fact that the unwashed masses will pay big bucks for brand names, and there you go.
Troutwiz wrote: Second question, is it only us bass players that want to push some air around with they horns?
No. Use of these cabs for bass and PA seems to be about equal.

Good choice. You absolutely will not be dissapointed with the outcome IF you follow directions and don't start changing things because you know a 'better way'.

And the question isn't if we can put up with you, it's whether you can put up with us!
