PL PL PL Everywhere.........

#1 Post by vexorgtr »

Nope, it didn't explode in my shop........ I was at the store, looking at this stuff....... there's different kinds to pick from...

PL Plus
PL Premium Construction Adhesive
PL Turbo..........

UM..... I got the Premium cuz the tube looked like the one in the picture.
I like it fairly well as an adhesive.... it's lots cheaper than what I was using..........just wish it wasn't so darn messy.

PL Plus is cheaper...... by a little bit.......

I use vinyl gloves in my factory and have found these to be excellent. make sure you get the right fit. I buy a box of 100 for about $NZ 5:00 - parking meter money for you - and just keep on replacing them when necessary. Keeps the hands PL free and that way they'll still let you grope!

I like "Nitrele" gloves.. they resist chemicals well, and I can use one pair for 3-4 days. cheap enough at 6$ a box, and they don't tear easily.

Interestingly, PL Plus and PL Premium both say Uruthane, but I think Plus is part Uruthane and part something else... Premium is the all Uruthane one........ ack

I tend to use the disposable medical gloves that you can buy at a drug store. Usually about 100 per box, for about $6. Just take 'em off and throw them away. My first 2 Tubas are done, and I still have about 1/2 box of gloves left.

Yep, that's the type I use but the vinyl ones are better han the rubber or latex ones.

I have lots of the latex gloves, and they do break. Whenever one breaks on me in the middle of a job, I just put another one over the top of the old one. That keeps most of it off the hands...

Ah, but other things... I have a cheap cordless drill that now has a fine coat of PL all over its outer surfaces because they don't make a glove in the right size for a drill. I choose to think of this sort of coating as "protective" for anything it lands on, and just concentrate on keeping it from landing on anything my wife cares about ;-)

Deja vu....my employees in my factory started moaning their butts off about PL covered tools, so this just gave me the good excuse to go to the hardware store and buy a completely new set! It makes sure they keep their tools stored in their rightful place - otherwise they are fair game for me to coat them!

So far I haven't made a single mess.

The instructions say that mineral spirits will take PL off when it's wet. Before I start gluing, I dampen a rag with it and leave it set. If I get anything on a tool, a quick wipe and it's done.

When I'm done gluing, I wipe off the tip of the gun and the 16 penny nail I'm using for a tip-plug. Coating the nail with mineral spirits before you put the gun away for the day makes it come out very easily the next time you need it.
A friend in need is a good reason to screen your calls.

If it's dried on the tools I think a High Speed Wire Brush will get it off of there....... My cordless drills have a bit on them....
