3-d drawings

I bought plans for the T-48 and the dr's. Are they supposed to come with the 3-d drawings or do I have to pay extra for that. I really need the 3-d drawings.

They came to you with the plans.

Google SketchUp and download the program.

There is a separate file that came with the plans that says Sketchup. Open that file inside the Sketchup software and you're done.

Is there a way that one can use the old Sketchup version for the newer plans? I use Win2000 and the latest version isn't compatible. Or do I have to go for Win XP?

You'll have to go to Sketchup support for an answer.

You really need to come out of your cave and install at least XP, if not Win7

In fact, a new computer is probably a better suggestion!

Nope, not a student. I have an IBM NetVista 1.6 Ghz and 785 Mb ram. Win7 won't work on this machine. If I get ambition(for this task) and time, I'll ask a buddy for a faster machine.

You could install a distribution of Linux for FREE (legally) and then run the latest version of Sketchup in Wine (it's a windows emulator that allows you to run many Windows based programs in Linux). Sketchup runs a little slow graphically in Wine, but it works.

What all do you do with the computer you're using? Be specific.

Not much really...surfing, Youtube, light duty school homework for the kids (age 10-18).
Not used for gaming.

Actually, you might be surprised what Win 7 will work on, and work well. Many people have installed it on older machines and obtained performance similar to Windows 2000/XP on the same hardware, sometimes greater performance when not using an Aero-based theme. It is miles snappier than Vista for sure! I just installed Windows 7 Pro on my HP Mini Netbook with 1.6Ghz Atom processor and 1GB RAM and it screams!

Your PC sounds like a great candidate for one of the many great FREE distributions of Linux. I'm not sure if programs like REW will run completely in Linux, but I do know that Google Sketchup and WinISD run fine in wine (Sketchup is just a little slow graphically).

If you install one, just google search for a guide to install and set up Wine. Then download and install google sketchup. You'll have to make a small registery edit for Sketchup to run, but that takes about 25 seconds and is easy and only needs to be done the first time.

Also, Linux comes free with a MS Office substitute called Open Office which is very good. You can open and save MS Office file types (.doc, .xls, .ppt, etc). Linux comes standard with Firefox as a browser and has programs to cover the entire spectrum of uses that the average user needs on a computer. And very well. And free.

There are loads of how-to guides, forums, articles and information out there to help you with whatever distribution you choose if you choose to this route.

Also, what ever choice you make, be sure to back up your data.
