Does duratex dry in less than an hour? I didn't see any info on the bucket.
I just painted two T39s and by the time I finished, the first panels seem to already be dry. Should I still wait awhile before recoating or laying them down on the back to get to the bottoms?
I really thought this stuff was going to be a PITA, but it's easier to paint on than the two coats of flat black. And it is really looking professional.

Re: Duratex dry time
Outdoors it's ready to recoat in an hour or so, but it's not cured by any means. I leave mine in the sun for at least a day to hard cure it. A clear polyethylene 'greenhouse' is even better, it cures hardest when it gets to 120 degrees or so.

Re: Duratex dry time
Thanks Bill.
I gave it about an hour and a half and it was really dry. Flipped 'em on their backs and did the bottoms, then recoated everything else (except the backs) again. By the time I was through with that, the bottoms were dry enough to recoat.
Kinda' afraid to take 'em out of the garage to dry....I'm in the little town in Texas that flooded a couple of days ago and we might get more rain this afternoon.
Wish I'd known how good this stuff is....I would have painted my rack instead of using carpet.

Re: Duratex dry time
When I bought the Duratex, I was worried that a gallon might not be enough (based on the impression I got from some old posts).
I've put two coats on a pair of T39s and as far as I concerned they are finished and look great. However, I only used a half a gallon (rolled). Did I not put enough on? Is two coats sufficient? I did put two coats of flat black paint on first.
Just wondering if I screwed up....

2 coats is fine, as long as you are happy with the finish. Most recommend 3 coats, but it's not necessary.

Re: Duratex dry time
My gun shot 1 coat and it was so thick that I couldn't possibly imagine a 2nd or third coat. One of the OT12's was slammed into a metal door way and there not visible damage. I let them sit in the sun all day after I painted them.

Re: Duratex dry time
I got my first bruised Duratex finish this weekend. Elevator door shut on my sub and took a small chunk of black with it. Touched it up with a chip brush and it's fine.

Re: Duratex dry time
DO NOT try to spray anywhere near the minimum temperature stated or the dry/cure time could be somewhere in the neighborhood of never. I was a bit too excited to get spraying on my first go around when it was still chilly & can still dig a fingernail in >3yrs later. Definitely not the manufactuers fault & their product support is great, just another incident of the end user not following label directions.
