Confused on Screw Placement?

#1 Post by doncolga »

Hey,

I just got my first set of plans this week for Tuba 30's, Omni 15's and Titan 39's. For the subs, I understand drawing the lines for all the interior panels onto one of the sides, clamping the guideboard along those lines as the panels are installed, then gluing and clamping the panels onto the interior. But how do you know exactly where to drill the screw on the other side? There's no drawing on the other side right? Am I missing something obvious?

Thanks!

Donny

After drawing on the first side, I drilled a few pilot holes through the the drawings, then drew lines on the other side between the pilots so I knew where to shoot the brads... similar to the way you do it for the other side at the very end (which is in the plans).

OK...that makes sense. I'll probably go out today to look at some arauco board and possibly a table saw...not sure about that yet...just checking. My goal is 2-4 T39s and Omni 15s (since they can be used without subs for smaller jobs). Surely more questions are coming.

Thanks!

-1. You should not use O15s with subs.

OK...I'm seeing now...I was missing the OmniTops...only seeing OmniFulls.

I think I'll try the OTF15's first to get my feet wet to building, then the T39's, then probably OTT12's or 15's after that.

Don't skimp. Get a good one. i bought a ProTech 4008 table saw off Craigslist for $50. You see them everywhere, they look quite nice. However, that particular design has no adjustment to parallel the saw blade to the runners. It will still work, but the cut is a bit wider as the blade is off perpendicular a bit, and I have to be very vigilant about wood drift. I spent last night making the Panel Jig from Bill's plans. Great item. i suggest making one if you get a table saw.

Go with the Otop 12s. Trust me, these things are LOUD. 4 otop 12s is a rig to reckon with, 2 otop 12s, 2 15s... a little less so.
Built:
2x Tuba 30s delta12lf loaded (gone)
4x Otop12 d2512 loaded
8x t48s (18, 18, 24, 24, 30, 30) 3015lf loaded
2x AT (1 mcm, 1 gto 804)
2x SLA Pro (dayton pa6, 6 goldwood piezo loaded)
1x bastard XF208

2x OT212 (delta pro 450a loaded, eminence psd)

Thanks for the comment! I'm thinking about that...I'm going to go ahead and try the Omni15 FR's since I've got some Eminence 15's sitting around and ordered the plans. A good set of FR's can always come in handy, especially for my smaller gigs, and those things look like they go down pretty deep. Hopefully that will break me back into workworking....I put down a work floor in my house...surely that counts for something.

For my rig with subs, I'll likely lean to the OmniTop 12s over T48's. I'll see how my first bit of construction goes, but I'd love to have 4 each of those. That would be awesome and would serve me needs super good. I'm just really excited about the possibility of building speakers...a rig of my dreams is within my reach!

yah, I mean, if you have 15s that are suitable for something, go ahead and build, cause then its just cost of plywood.
