2 J110s for bass - first gig

I finally got to play my first gig with my two Jacks last Saturday. :hyper:
We were asked to provide the music for a 60th birthday at the local village hall.
I've played there a few times with other bands and it's a nice place to play. There's a decent stage, good acoustics and it was comfortably filled with about 120 guests.

The Jacks sounded good at sound check - We don't have anyone to run the sound for us so I stood out front with a long lead and the other guys were good enough to trust my ears.
On stage, my bass sounded great to me and all the feedback we got about our sound was very positive.
This was the first gig for a new band. We hadn't used the PA before and the guitarist only picked up his Fender amp 2 weeks ago. With one week to go my Ashdown bass amp started overheating and cutting out so I ended up grabbing a used poweramp off ebay and using the ashdown just as a pre-amp. With no chance to give it a proper test beforehand it was :fingers: but it worked well and was running cool at the end of the set so all in all, a good start.

Now I need to get working on the PA speakers. 2 slim T39s and a couple of OT12s are planned for later this year.

You could put it that way

The amp just cuts out and it feels (and smells) a bit hot but the fan hasn't come on so there's obviously some fault that has been lurking until the warranty expired - the amp is 14 months old! :(

If they stand by their product they should still fix it for minimal charge.

Your right - I've contacted their support dept.
The question is, even if they fix it, will I trust it for a gig without backup?

Direct into the PA you're building would suffice if it broke down again. You would have to hope the units are generally reliable and it's just a dud component.

the good news is .....
I received a very rapid response from Ashdown

Not so good...
the response was a single line
"You need to get in touch with your dealer to arrange repair of it."

I carry a cheap & cheerful Behringer BD121 preamp / DI as a backup - it allows me to go into the PA and have some tone shaping. Can't fault it at the price.

+1 - Sounds as good to my ears as the Sansamp BDI that it clones.
