Omni 10.5's

#1 Post by 10range »

I just wanted to post my experience with the Omni 10.5's and say how impressed I am with these speakers. This is the first set of PA speakers of Bill's design I have built. We are using them for a portable sound system at church. The primary use is for an outdoor service during the summers. This is the second year we have been using them.

I figured going in we would be pushing the limits with these speakers but they have performed wonderfully. We usually have 150-200 people in attendance with 1/3 of these in boats about 50-100 yards off shore. We set up with one speaker towards the group on shore and the second directed towards the boats on the lake. With the previous system, we constantly had comments about not being able to hear but since using the O10.5's we now get comments about how well people can hear the service. I continue to be impressed about how well these speakers reproduce the full range, including good low end response. Now granted, we are not playing hip-hop during the service but the lower end is more than adequate without subs.

Yesterday our service was provided by a musical group who brought their own sound system. They were using 3 Mackie SRM450's. We again received comments about not being able to hear the service. I also noticed a big difference in the low end response and overall quality of sound.

All this to say that now that I have heard the Omni 10.5's compared to something commercially available, I am even more impressed with Bill's design. Now I just need an excuse to build another design!

Just a couple of further notes, these are O 10.5s loaded with Beta 10s and the straight meld arrays.
