Best wire stripper EVER!

#1 Post by gilscales »

This is for all the people who complain about stripping wire for an array (I'm talking to you Leeland!) my son's friend who is heavily into car stereos (trunk full of subs, 5000 watts, ect...) turned me onto this little beauty, it is self adjusting from 10 - 28 ga. wire and works like a dream, here is a short video to show you how cool it really is and a link to buy it from Fry's electronics.

I don't strip them any more. I use solid copper and slide heat shrink over it, in a continuous run. Fast and simple. But here's my weapon of choice, but it's not $10 for sure. It's a Klein.

I also use the type Leland has posted that I get from McMaster Carr.

They have interchangeable inserts that will allow you to strip 26ga up to 8ga.

you're going to laugh but that's what they were being sold as 15 years ago when I bought my first one

for wiring arrays they are fantastic because you don't have to cut the wire to strip the insulation, the procedure is to solder the end, then hold it taught to the next lug, use t-rex to strip the insulation over the lug, it is going to spring back a little but as soon as you tin the wire, the insulation will recede again, tin the lug, hold them together and heat again for the solder to flow through, then strip for the next lug etc, it's much neater that way because one end is always held by the array so you can make perfectly straight wire links.

I have a set of those in my tool box and won;t use them anymore as they seem to always take a strand or three with the covering. Even when I adjust the crap out it. I now use a VERY similar set as Leland.

No more messing around. As for the solidwire it may work great, not yet tried that, but stranded wire not so hot.
