It was time to improve the current Subs in my system, so I built a Table Tuba.
I used a driver which was originally in a sealed box design, but was deemed within specs and suitable for an AT or TT.
I was running 2 of these in my HT, but wanted to see what would be the difference using one of these drivers in a Table Tuba.
The driver is a Peerless 10” XLS.
Here are the numbers recorded during testing: same voltage, placement and mic distance. Points are at approx 1/3rd octave.
Hz + db from 1 sealed to TT
24 6.1
32 12
40 11.7
50 11.7
63 14.6
80 22.9
100 21.7
The Table Tuba has about the same output of the two sealed, at 24 Hz, but is significantly higher through the rest of the test frequencies.
Set up in the listening area, the Table Tuba is crossed at about 80hz. It sounds far better at a nice volume, cleaner and not as muddled that the pair of sealed did. The Sealed Subs tend to distort at higher Spl, where the TT keeps on going all the way beyond any listening level I would use.

Re: Table Tuba Comparision
very cool comparison. are you planning on upgrading the "optimum" recommended driver? if so, please post another analysis like this!
