Otop 12's and T-39's...

#1 Post by Frankie G »

Where to start besides Good Lord!!! Just fired up my whole system after setting up all the gear for my new BFM system. Gotta say, I built the Otop's first and all I had to use were my old subs. I wasn't exactly sure I liked what I was hearing. The Otops seemed really bright to my ears. I RTA'd my subs and found they dropped like a rock after about 80hz or so. The gap between that and the Otops is what I was hearing. Either way, the Otops were crystal clear and and get very loud. I did a direct A/B with my Kustom 2x15's W/Horns and the Otops just smack them silly any which way you want to look at it. Then I got the Titans ready. Checked for air leaks, Did my auto eq, gain structure, set limiters, all that good stuff and fired it up. Wow, never knew what I was missing. What a full, tight, crystal clear, punchy sound. Probably the most hi-fi sounding P.A. system I've heard, at this level anyways. The Titans filled that gap and then some. Gonna have alot of fun today playing around. Don't have a show until next weekend so I won't have a full report on how it is live until then. Can't wait though. Already got it worked out with the club owner to get there at 9am for a set up. For obvious reasons, I like to set up and pink the rooms before anyone gets there.

And....Thanks Bill, Leland, and others on this board, that took the time out to answer my questions and guide me through this process.

P.S., Right now I'm just playing around with recorded music. I have the x-over set to run the T-39's from 50hz with a BW at 18, up to 125hz with an LR at 24. Sure getting plenty of thump. Enough to make me nervous that someone is going to call on me and I'm not even close to war volume!!!

Oh, if you haven't built Titan's yet, they are no joke. I fired my system up today just to play around a little and was playing the song "Closer" by Nine Inch Nails. I'm here to say that it is true, when the bass hits you can feel not just your hair move but your whole scalp, and, your eyes do go blurry with the beat!!! I didn't even have them wall loaded. Just sitting next to each other on end pointing at me.

..and that's with the Delta's...

I need to buy some 3012LF's and upgrade my T39's - need to get a van first though.

Yeah. I already had 4 of the Delta's on hand. After buying the plans and seeing that they would work I figured why not. I plan on making a couple more titans. These two I was thinking 30" wide and using them with the one's I already have for some of the outdoor gigs I have lined up for this summer. Indeed, a van is the way to go. I bought a 2000 Chevy Astro LS and took the seats out of it. I fit my whole P.A. system, my full stack bass rig, lights, some times 2 to 3 instruments, and various other pieces of gear and still have a little room leftover.
