DR-250's and Titan 48"s.

#1 Post by neverendingbeatz »

Threw a school event with 400 students. They loved the sound, it was loud and clear. Bass was hitting so hard, the Titan began to start moving from it's spot. Really good reviews from teachers and students. Bill made me look like a sound genus. Thanks...

Yes, but I just like how they look without it.

The reason your subs were moving is because of the lack of bracing. You're also losing a little output because of it.

Your first pic reveals some serious set-up issues...

Image

You had a lot more room available to spread the DRs out further. You're not doing yourself any favors by unnecessarily keeping them that close together.

Should have v-plated those T48s. If you haven't made yourself a v-plate yet, you should do it ASAP ... 3 free decibels for just the cost of a sheet of plywood! If there's no room for v-plating, remember that you can use the "floor-loading" method:

Regardless, I'm glad that it went well!

Did you brace internally at all?

By the way, congrats on your gig, I'm glad it worked out and you got great compliments!

Maybe...maybe not. I often use my T39's as shown in the pic...without the V-plate. If I do not need the additional output, and I do not easily have the floor space...then there is no need. At most events, I am hard limiting to less than 100w per box anyway.

Well, the titan's are braced every 10 inches internally so maybe it's just the mouth braces I need to add.

As for the setup issue, the titan's were hitting so hard, I didn't even have them at full volume plus the students loved to see these subs with a huge open mouth. I guess it looks cooler to them.

Also, I had 1 hour to set up two stages, sound system and lights with truss. And all I had were students who only did what I told them, so maybe if they give me more time to set up I will do it properly next time.

And one more thing to add, I only ran that set up with a crown CE2000 amp. The SPL was almost deafening where I had to even lower it a little.

+1 on what Stan said,
there have been many times that V-coupling would have taken up too much real estate on the dance floor and I just end up running them side by side like you did. True you could have gained a few dB but there is nothing wrong with the way you had them. We don't always have to V-couple...but it's nice when you can.

I noticed a pair of JBL TR225's in the bottom pic...I used to have a pair myself. Those dual 15 + horn cabs are probably the worst design put out by any sound provider. They never make the cab big enough to get any low end out of the 15's and the 15" woofers beam like crazy in the midrange.

I sold mine to fund more BF builds.

I was under the impression that you needed to keep the subs fairly close together, or farther than 50 feet apart? What is the max you can separate them under 50 feet (might make setup a little easier on me)

Mikey was reffering to the DR's. Not the subs

I would sell those JBL's if they were mine, unfortunately I borrowed them from my cousin because I needed sound for a smaller room.

I still cannot believe how much bass those Titan's produce, they are insane!!!

Why is one of your T48's an inch or more shorter than the other?
