Titan 48 first gig.
Used my 2 titan 48's for the first time with a band last night. 3015LF loaded, driven by a bridged carvin HD1800 using a 40HZ low cut. It was a small club that sometimes complains about volume, so the only thing running through the p.a. was vocals, kick drum, and lower toms. When I got to the bar, the band had already had the pa set up, and had a titan on each side with a Peavey sp-2 on top them about 18 feet apart.
I really wanted to put them on the same side wall loaded and run the sp-2's on sticks, but there just wasnt time to get it done. I did manage to take each member out front when the cd was playing before we went on, and they were amazed by the dead spots! They had no idea of cancellation. They do now, so next time they will know. Anyway, about 30 feet out from the stage (on the floor) the low end was awesome while playing the cd! So much clearer than my eaws. Then we soundchecked the kick drum. that is where everyone in the band just smiled! Clean, clear, feel it in the floor and chest powerful. crushing. I cant wait to wall load them and lean on em a little! Very different from direct radiators. The effort of building these subs was worth every minute it took (and it took me ALOT!) I started by crossing at 120, but ended up getting the best sound around 100hz. WARNING: With my eaw's, and also with my old Peavey subs, I thought the sp-2s sounded good. I heard things the peavey tops were putting out last night that suprised and scared me. Garbage. The midrange is terrible. The highs seemed brittle and harsh. eq'ing didnt help. I think the incredibly clean articulate low end we have now is showing the peaveys true colors. Once you use a titan, you will most likely be looking for better tops. DR's perhaps?

I run dr250's for tops and they are amazing cabs. I was eqing my system to G'nR and when "Night Train" came on I heard hand claps throughout the song! Something that me or my partener in sound never heard before in that song. You don't realize how distorted your whole system probably is until you start using DR tops. And like the subs you can crank the hell out of them and it doesn't hurt you ears.
As much
