Best supplier for inexpensive cables, wires & connectors?

#1 Post by Zack Brock »

What is the best place you guys have found to buy premade, molded cables along with raw speaker and mic cable and connectors (XLR/TRS, etc)?

And by best, I mean quality items at a value price. Hosa or ProCo quality for example.

Hosa are not very high quality. I have a few of their 1/4 insert snake cables and they all have dead channels. They just didn't hold up.

My old homemade Belden / Switchcraft ones are still functional and 10 years older then the Hosas!

Markertek has decent prices on some stuff like Switchcraft Ends ,Nutrik ends etc.

Camel Traders usually can have decent wire deals.

audiophile.net like WII suggests is also pretty good.Their Racks are really nice for the price.Good prices on snakes too.

Here's a real deal on Mic Cable!!!

500ft for 52.00 is insane! and it's 22ga. mot 24 which is what you usually see at the lower prices!

Speaker Cables I usually buy bulk local.

14/2.......12/2....10/2 in 250 ft rolls can be had at decent prices right from the local electrical places like Fromm Electric or Denny Electric etc.

This guy I use for Horizon Snake Cable on E-bay at his e-bay Store. He's a bit pricey on the connectors but the Horizon Multi Pair Cable is decent stuff for the price.

Have you used any of that? The 22ga stuff from Audiopile gets a little stiff compared to other 24ga and it doesn't lay as nice. Especially on the quad conductors 4x22ga (effectively 2x19ga). The 2 conductor aren't that bad actually, but I like my quad conductor cabling.

I only use 22ga. ...24 is a tad thin for me because I solder most of my own cables. I also use a resistive soldering iron with a foot control. It coils and lays ok for me.I haven't used any cable from audiophile.net so I cannot comment on their quality or ease of use. From what others write they seam to offer many good products. I dont have 1 quad cable in the bunch either! Most of my gear is 10+ years old with the exception of any cabling I have made myself.Usually Mic cables and multipair sends etc.

I did buy some el cheapo 25 ft.Mic cables off e-bay for a one off gig where the clients (chruch) were keeping the excess purchased gear (long story). In the end they were having trouble paying the bill so I ended up keeping the cables. Turns out they were pretty good cables 22ga. nice and thick covering with Chinese XLR connectors. The female pins would spread open and loose contact so I just replaced them with 1.99 Swicthcraft ends and they are still going strong.@ like 5.00 a cable with a 2.00 per one end and a little labor they ended up being a pretty decent deal since I was stuck with them anyways. Into the rental box!

Well, at $52 for the spool it's hard to pass up if its usable stuff. If you've picked up a spool and it works well, that's enough for me. Just as long as it's better than the cheapie Whirlwind freebie type cable. I've seen plenty of problems with that stuff in the cable itself and not on the connectors. Otherwise, all my cable has held up well that doesn't get cut into. All my Neutriks have been solid. I do tend to prefer cable with the drain wire, but just because it makles putting ends on a touch faster, not for any quality reason.
