I have just got my plans for the DR300 and to be honest I am confused. They are a lot harder to build than I thought. I noticed that on the comparison charts the jack is compared with the versa array 112, that is the same as the Dr300. Can i get away with building the Jack instead.

They look daunting, but they are not.

The skills necessary to build a Jack or Otop , are adequate for building the DR.

The DR is more complicated, and there's lots more fiddly bits, but one step at a time and carefully read right through the plans 3 or 4 times before you start and it will be achievable.

The satisfaction reward at the end of the build is indescribable

The Jack110 and the DR300 are VASTLY different cabs and with you choosing between those two for the same purpose tells me that you don't know what to pick for your needs.
To get to the source of the problem. What are your needs?

Well, maybe the skills but I'm not so sure about the tools. I have not built an Otop but just finished two DR250s and am halfway through a Jack 110. The Jack could easily be built with a circular saw, a couple of clamps, and a screwdriver. It will take me about 6-8 hours to finish one Jack 110 and I am no master carpenter.

I could not imagine trying to build a DR without a high quality table saw. I know some folks have done so but I have nowhere the skills or patience those folks must have. It took me two months of 1-2 hours per night and 4+ hours eack weekend day to finish the 2 DRs.

No argument there. And we have not even had time to EQ them yet. We're just running them flat and they sound great.

hey even if it takes me a whole month to build these I could never go retail again. I am going to make a mock speaker using cardboard and get a general feel for what I am doing.

I'm nearly done with my DR200, and I am inexperienced and have few tools. I've used friends' and neighbors' equipment and help to get here. One step at a time is right, but it takes some serious determination to keep at it. I recommend one at a time. I made some mistakes and had to restart, but in a single Saturday I was able to redo a few weeks worth of work. The glueing and waiting could have taken less time if I had more clamps, as I had to do the first cab one night, and the second cab the next. Make the guides (4 of them for glueing later) and templates, and redo them until they are perfect. Spend the cash for the pre-built piezo array if you can swing it.

Building these in one month seems like a pipe dream to me. I've read about more presistant and skilled workers doing these in two months. I'm coming up on 6 with my life as it is. People keep telling me that I'll fall in love with woodworking, but so far I'm just eager to have the speakers.
