nimrod pics

#1 Post by jesuchete »

Has anyone got pics from Nimrod Webber. I am looking for his outdoor setup and his plans for the rigging.

Maybe i should not have asked for those pics, cause man they look good. I think it will take me a bit of time to get to that stage. I completely understand why anyone would drool over these.

The liability of flying speakers is great. Much planning and expense should be taken from QUALIFIED engineers before embarking on a project such as this. I have been tempted myself to replicate such lifts for my little DR200's, but lack of funds prohibits.
He has a nice idea but it relies to much upon his LAB sub as support for the tops.

Quote from Nimrod:" as basically this 'tripod' is stable on its own even without the Sub's weight (long as the tops are secured and prevented from swaying)"

I do believe Nimrod is a qualified structural engineer.Granted this is a very unique project and most people wouldn't have the resources to make one let alone the proper engineering knowledge to design one. Without a mig welder ,machine shop and test equipment I think you would be grossly overloading your capabilities.Of course I've seen some people do some amazing things with just hand tools but a project such as this done in that fashion I would not trust.

Nimrod seems to know his stuff! I was looking at some of the welds in some of his pics and they looked flawless. Heck I wouldn't doubt he inspects them with Zyglo after he's finished.

A real world caution to anyone attempting this: You had better know a thing or two about structural engineering and how to do proper load tests or your playing with fire! You also better have some mad Machine Skills and Welding Skills! This is not a beginners project!

I wasn't knocking Nimrod's design, I was confused about the LAB not being integral. Sorry for the ill communication. I wanted to let the OP and others who read about that post to use extreme caution when flying speakers. Nimrod has no control over people who use his plans and potentially err due to any number factors including cutting costs and or not consulting with a structural engineer locally. Safety First!

No harm done. Nimrods skills are for real.

I too would not like to see anyone get hurt trying to do something like this.

However it is quite encouraging to those who have the skills as well.I thought about it but time just isn't on my side.

I do have the machinery and the facilities to partake and I'm pretty sure my skills are up to the task but I would be forced to load test register with a certified company because I am not a structural engineer or a mechanical engineer.

I sit her well stand and check posts in between working on other projects. The flavor this week is a slip sheet separator that I have to install on a piece of machinery in or Freemont Ohio plant next week! Complete retrofit from mechanical to structural to electrical to PLC Re programing! Yippeee! At least I'm still working!

Tonight I'm rewriting the program! Finished the drawings last night! Anyone know Step 7 statement logic? Fun, fun, fun!

Good luck with the Plant work, I hope you still have hair after the project.
As for Nimrods stand, if you get one built, I would be interested to see you as an " authorized builder "
