BFD P.A.

#1 Post by chad »

I have 2 tuba 36's loaded with RCF L-15 554k (QSC plx 3002 bridged), 2DR250's(Crown CE 1000 bridged) and 2 Wedgehorns(QSC U.S.A>850). I used this setup at a metal show and the bass was unreal. I have heard the JBL 2x18's in the same place and they didnt' sound half as good. I was rattling peoples (empty) drinks on the bar! I had one on each side facing the wall with a 250 pole mounted on top of each sub. The 250's were pretty good too. I used to use rcf loaded cabs tri-amped with 800 watts each total. I run the 250's with 500 watts per cab and they are borderline loud enough(I am building another pair right now!). That doesn't mean much though because the rcf's were the same-borderline loud enough. So the little 10" speaker can hang with a tri-amped 15/8/horn? YOU BET! Like Mr Crooks, I need the second set of DR's to go just a tad louder and take the stress off of the one pair that I do have. The bar owner that night asked what I was running and I told him 2 15's for subs and 2 10's for highs and about 2500 watts. He was kind of shocked, but didnt' ask me to turn down hence 2 more 250's.

Thanks for the mention. You need another pair, with those subs. Move up your crossover point in the 140-150 range for the time being if you haven't already.

You also get a big benefit in quality. The whole line array concept and its attendant benefits is just as magic as corner loading for bass.

You'll like it
:D
If it's too loud, you're even older than me! Like me.

What Leland said. A second set of DRs will not only sound better in and of themselves but will also run lower, allowing you to drop the crossover frequency and take some load off the T36s and their amp.

And how did the wedgehorns hold up? Any likes/dislikes?

THe wedgehorns are awesome and can be driven just as hard as the wh-10's as long as you get rid of 150hz and lower.

Is the Crown CE 1000, running bridged, adequate per pair of 250's?

Its not much louder than it running them in stereo at 275 a side, it just sounds warmer. You really don't need any more that 300-500 watts for this cab. Soon I will be running four with that amp which will only push about 200-250 watts per cab but I am confident that it still will be adequate.
