DSP's, limiters, and sequence of gear.

Helpful hints on how to build 'em, and where to get the stuff you need.

DSP's, limiters, and sequence of gear.

#1 Post by davetripd »

So I purchased 2 t48's and 2 dr280's off this forum, going to replace my current (b52) active system for the first time this new years. (BTW i purchased plans for both of these a few months ago but must have lost them when I reformatted my comp and found a screaming deal here pre-made)

Decided to go with the behringer deq/dcx combo and have a few questions on setup - the equipment will arrive on tuesday (12/22)

DJ House/Techno application
Does the signal chain go mixer - deq - dcx - amps - speakers
or mixer - dcx - deq (dr280's only) - amps - speakers

Also, I cant seem to find the correct voltage to set each limiter (per channel) at. Do you meter when a speaker is connected or can you go straight from the banana outputs on the amps (2x rmx1450) with a sine wave dl'ed from the internet.

This site rocks! Thanks for everything Bill. Not looking for handouts here either, links to info are fine too!

Im an electrician by trade so I have meters and whatnot

Your first sequence is the right one, and yes, you can connect the meter directly to the speaker output jacks on the amp without a speaker connected. That way you don't blow your eardrums while setting the limiters.

P.S. Welcome!
Dave

Built:
- Omni 10 (S2010 + piezo array)
- 2 x DR250 (DL II 2510 + melded array)
- 2 x Titan 39 (BP102 - 14"W)
- 2 x Titan 39 (3012LF - 20"W)
- 4 x DR200 (Delta Pro 8B + melded array)

Thanks for the heads up!

My dcx and deq just arrived via UPS... Sweet. So whats the desired voltage to limit the two different speakers at? Also, when you meter - do you go between the two banana terminals (red and black) on the amp?

how to limit speakers here:
http://billfitzmaurice.info/forum/viewt ... p?f=6&t=12
Use the formula to calculate the wattage.

Here's the short answer for the Titans:
3015LF = 60 volts
3012LF = 53 volts
you'll need to calculate the voltage for the DR280 and other woofers...

If you want a good source for a test CD with pink noise and all manner of tones do a Google search for "Michael Bink Knowles" and download the .wav files for his test CD. the files are under the "Extra" tab in the menu.
Built so far:
AutoTuba. TAT, T18, T30, T39, SLA, SLA Pro, DR200, Omni 12TB, Omni 12 Sub, Omni 10.5,
