Re: capacitor capacity
on a low pass crossover, how many watts can a 250 volt capacitor handle? There is no power rating for capacitors, only voltage. Okay, so let me rephrase my question. Will a 250v capacitor handle 250v audio in a crossover? Lets say you have a speaker cab, 4ohm, rated at 800 watts. Will a 250v capaci...

Re: subwoofer pole socket
a lot of subs have pole cups in them, so you can put a pole in it and mount your mains on the pole. They shouldn't, as that encourages poor sub placement. If you saw the cramped quarters I've been working in lately you'd be looking for something to compact your setup too! Stages 6' deep and 15' wid...

subwoofer pole socket
a lot of subs have pole cups in them, so you can put a pole in it and mount your mains on the pole. Has anybody been inside one of those? Do they have extra bracing, or do they just have a pole socket bolted in to the top?

OT 12 in football stadium
Haven't been on here in a while, but still using my OT 12's for everything. This is from a Youth Crusade in a 20,000 seat football stadium. We were using only one side of the stadium, counting on around 1000 in attendance. The area I covered would seat 5000. Event consisted of a praise band and seve...

Re: piezo with reversed polarity
I tried a couple of hundred after your original post and didn't find any. I don't know where he gets his. I get mine direct from Goldwood. I have another batch coming in, I'll try it on them. I pick one out as my standard, then I put each one side by side , one at a time, with the standard. I run a...

piezo with reversed polarity
I just went through testing a batch of piezos before building a pair of melded arrays for a pair of omnitop 12s. Almost half of the piezos had reversed polarity. Is this common, or do I need to find a different supplier. I got this batch from BLT sound. This build and the last one, I had so many pie...

Re: 2 OT 212, 4 titan 48 photo
depends on how you describe equal power. In my side by side tests, I pulled the speaker cable out of one and into the other with no other changes. That would account for a 4dB difference in and of itself. That means the only advantage to the 218s is in power handling. You could load the T48s with h...

Re: 2 OT 212, 4 titan 48 photo
the double 18's trounce the T48's especially in the lower frequencies. In my side by side tests the double 18's went 4db louder at 60hz. With equal power after accounting for the impedance differential? depends on how you describe equal power. In my side by side tests, I pulled the speaker cable ou...

Re: 2 OT 212, 4 titan 48 photo
Below 45hz the T48 is king but since brodave2 hasn't commented on any advantage in extension that the T48s has over his double 18" cabs I suspect that he doesn't need a lot of output below 50hz and since that is the case the T48 loses it's point. the double 18's trounce the T48's especially in...

Re: 2 OT 212, 4 titan 48 photo
Dave when you used the Titans in place of the reflex 18"s did you have them separated left and right? If so it's possible the Titans were having more of a problem with a power alley then the 18"s. The harmonic distortion of the 18"s could probably be felt better even though the power...

Re: 2 OT 212, 4 titan 48 photo
Maybe you should give some big-iron Class AB a shot on those T48's, or try running one per amp, like you did the 18"s. IIRC, RonK was saying he's not so impressed with the newer switching amps on bass material when you push them to their limits. PLX's are light and letting them coast individua...

Re: 2 OT 212, 4 titan 48 photo
That's been my impression with my mixes vs other 18" loaded rigs as well. Things just work, I don't have to fight the bottom end of my mixes with EQ to try and clean things up. After spending a few years mixing on my Titans it's a very apparent difference when I have to use someone else's rig....
