Re: Curved SLA

I have to say working with MDF went better than I thought it would. it does leave large amounts of undesirable fine dust over EVRYTHING, but it is easy to cut, glue and sand. I did not use any fasteners on this build, only glue and clamps. I used only some rattle can primer and spray paint for a fin...

Re: Curved SLA

I hear you Bill, I would love to do that. but I just got this weird octagon shape room. been thinking of some wall mounts and even possibly making some SLAs or TLAHs The TV is on a nice big adjustable wall mount. I may try to get something similar for the mains. anyone know a source for heafty wall ...

Re: Curved SLA

OK! all done. finished (for now) I just hit it with some spray can simi-gloss black for now. I had thoughts of finishing it with some bar-top clear 2 part epoxy for a high gloss durable finsih, but any flaws in the paint go without notice since the room is usually dim / dark anyhow. it turned out be...

Re: Curved SLA

Oh man, wiring this thing took WAAAHHHHAAAAYYYY longer than I thought it would. :conf:  :noob: I have learned that: 1. I thought I knew how to solder but actually I suck at it. 2. I am going blind as I age and need to get stronger eyeglasses 3. if you try to solder a big chunk of wires to a de...

Re: Curved SLA

Lookin' good! hey, thanks. it's my first attempt at making something look half way decent. The grill cover came out, eh... OK I guess. I used spray adhesive instead of staples. had a bit of trouble in the corners and I got a little of the adhesive on the front of the cloth. but not bad for m...

Re: Curved SLA

Is that an old craftsman table saw I see? Yes. A family heirloom, from the 50s I believe. The table is very small, and I can't seem to get the blade perfectly square. I tried building a small jig for it but the slots in table are so small. at any rate, I guess it's better than nothing. I can sand o...

Re: Curved SLA

Been too long with no progress. It's been so hot and humid lately, I come home from work and just collapse on the couch and suck up the AC.

Today I finally got out in the garage and made a little model to better help me understand the angles and try out the table saw.

Re: Curved SLA

OK, I know I'm going to get it for asking, but I may as well ask. (the answer is always don't deviate from the plans) Would it be OK to add a 1/4" or so to the front baffle & sides height to allow for my flush mount step? Would the slight increase in volume of the enclosure be an issue? :co...

Re: Curved SLA

:D Thanks Bill.

I just came back in to edit my post to say never mind that last comment about wiring the driver. I just did a test cut sequence with my jig to flush mount and it looks like it will work just fine drops the connectors right below the panel.

Curved SLA

I may be making mine out of 3/4 MDF just because I have a bunch laying around taking up space. Not sure though, after just cutting it up into workable pieces already not real happy with the dust. :? I have a few questions: Most pictures I have seen of these are without the narrow "end" pie...

Re: New Speaker Plan Request For Bill

That's funny, I'm actually looking forward to setting up all the stuff that's been "kicked to the garage" since I have been building some BFM. I originally had plans to build a Dayton 6.5"/silk tweet MTM for use a CC. Now that I have decided to build a curved SLA, I will just have to ...

Re: THT Build in progress

I'm not going to post any pics, Brysons build has much better pics and his build is very clean and well done.
OH geez, don't look at my thread then! I embraced my ugly unskilled TTLS build.
