Re: Jack 212

You can always EQ them out. Since you build the crossover you even know what frequencies to cut. 8)

Exotic Lumber in Gaithersburg, MD

Just picked up a 5x5 sheet of Russian Birch plywood at Exotic Lumber in Gaithersburg, MD, over near the airpark. I'd never been there before... it looks like a great shop for getting nice wood. They didn't have a huge number of 1/2" birch ply sheets but what they had looked very nice.

Re: Jack 110 build from a first-timer

Yes, the grille cloth isn't stretched quite right. Haven't gone in to reattach it yet. The MB200 is an absolutely terrific amp. I think that this amp and a stack of 2 Jack10s would be plenty for moderately-sized gigs even with a loud drummer, but I have not tried this. The MB500 in the same combo wo...

Re: Jack 110 build from a first-timer

Finally built the grille. This actually caused me more trouble than anything else. My first grille frame material was half-round from the Depot, but sadly every time I tried to miter it, it split. So instead I cut 1/2" strips of my leftover ply. I picked up a handy frame clamp from Rockler ($20...

Re: Jack 110 build from a first-timer

Phones are for calling people? Whoa. If the phone company finds out about that they'll start charging for it. No updates in a while, since I've been playing the cab and putting off making the grille. Last week I discovered KwikWood and spent some time patching up my sloppy woodwork. I have a grille ...

That is simply beautiful. I hope next time I come to Israel I can see them first-hand.

Cut the nozzle on an angle, and develop a skilled touch on your caulk gun. My Jack10 looked similar at that stage but after a couple panels I got much better.

Also, wear disposable latex gloves, and you can smooth put PL with a finger.

Re: Jack 110 build from a first-timer

Very nearly finished. The glue is holding the handle on top very well, so I'm going to (sorry) stick with that. Fixed a bad solder connection on the jack plate and did a bit of touch-up painting. Then it was past time... hook it all up and see how it sounds! https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/_QqepfO...

Re: Jack 110 build from a first-timer

Just read a post from Zack Brock on placing the handle on the side rather than on the top... http://billfitzmaurice.info/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=13373&p=137492&hilit=+strap+handle#p137492 . That method looks like a real winner... I can get the H-nuts in that way very easily, and it wi...

Re: Jack 110 build from a first-timer

Started putting it all together yesterday. Here's the woofer, crossover, and padding installed: https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/_QqepfOXMSfU/TZngYUjjbRI/AAAAAAAAARk/9mP_UBGEQgo/s400/photo%201.JPG ... an appropriately out of focus shot of the installed melded array: https://lh5.googleusercontent.co...

Re: Jack 110 build from a first-timer

Painting! The temperature outside is around 45-50F, so I moved inside to my furnace/workroom (which is too cluttered to do actual work in... usually!). Got the first coat of Duratex on five sides of the cab and the rear panel. I got the front sections with Duratex as well, even though I'm planning a...

Re: Jack 110 build from a first-timer

Another short update. I redid some of the wiring on the melded array (thanks to Leland for a very clear photograph of the back of a fully wired array!). Response playing audio over my Mac still seemed a little harsh, but I really didn't want to put more soldering iron heat on the piezo lugs. So I co...

Re: Jack 110 build from a first-timer

Excuse: A Jack should be red and black.

Real story. The plan was yellow, but the yellow didn't come out very well.

Re: Jack 110 build from a first-timer

Removed the melded array, wired things back up on the bench for testing. I can't get scratchiness from my iPhone player, but off the main computer with the volume maxxed it scratches. I ended up taking the leads from the computer and touching them to each piezo's contacts. Now, this is a bit silly s...
