Re: SLA DJ/Pro style

That was kind of what I thought but wasn't totally sure. Thanks for the clarification!

Re: SLA DJ/Pro style

Not sure if this is the best place to post this, but I was wondering in pro-sound applications as opposed to home theater is there any reason to do power tapering via the wiring sequence when using 8 or more drivers as in the Griffin white paper on line arrays?

Re: SLA DJ/Pro style

Me . . . over-think . . . never! Of course my teenage daughter says she has me to thank for her tendencies toward anal-retentive OCD behavior at times! :D I played around the last couple of days with an small 3.5in 8 driver test array -- 1300 cu in cabinet tuned to about 75hz -- total cost about $25...

Re: SLA DJ/Pro style

That makes sense . . . I guess for my purposes staying with as small a driver as I can (maybe 3.5 to 5 depending on specs) and still get down to 73hz for the low D makes the most sense, and then maybe a dome tweeter array more akin to the standard SLA/TLAH for a little wider dispersion, or better ye...

Re: SLA DJ/Pro style

Thanks for the clarification Bill. That makes more sense to me. I went back and looked at the charts in the Bose white paper and their rhetoric in the document as you say does not match what their charts show in the top two octaves. I guess the remaining question I have then is . . . do smaller driv...

Re: SLA DJ/Pro style

Bill, Okay . . . now I'm really confused. You state above that the mid bass drivers in the SLA/TLAH won't disperse wider than 90 degrees which matches the piezo array. I thought the purpose of a line array was to get wider dispersion and many standard pro audio cabinets are rated at 90 degrees. The ...

Re: SLA DJ/Pro style

In regard to the piezo array -- if that gives 90 degree dispersion is there another option for increasing that other than the V array which wouldn't work in this type cab (and other than stacking two SLA's with a little rotation as mentioned previously)?

Re: SLA DJ/Pro style

The point of a cab that high is to only have one thing to carry -- no stand and only one speaker cabinet -- that will have the drivers at a height that will cover the audience. With a Dayton plate amp it literally could be all you carry. I don't quite understand the filling a stadium comment -- then...

Re: SLA DJ/Pro style

Got the SLA pro plans today as well as the TLAH for comparison. I think what I need and intend to build is a bit in-between the two so I need a couple of clarifications. I want a cab that is floor standing as apposed to pole mounted, but 60" in the max height I can easily haul in my vehicle and...

Re: SLA DJ/Pro style

In regard to the weight issue I just want to stay as light as possible as I usually work with a small ensemble that is mostly middle-school girls in the summer and I want them to be able to take ownership of their sound setup. As you were saying with the alphalites you gain a 2lb weight advantage pe...

Re: SLA DJ/Pro style

Thanks for the info. I do think I will get the sla plans when Bill gets the update done . . . looked at the eminence driver specs and with 6 in a cab the spl would be incredible and win isd shows a 3.25 cu ft ported cab going down to 70 at -4db even though the fs is much higher. My main concern with...

Re: SLA DJ/Pro style

I am interested in making a very light portable line array type cabinet for acoustic guitar and vocal production. My goals are a height of about 5 ft as that is the biggest thing I can haul in my car and a foot print about the size of a sheet of paper or preferably smaller with a weight as low as po...
