Re: Table Tuba build!!
If I move the sub to the front left corner of the room, it sounds beautiful. Bass is less locatable (at least it's coming from the front where the action is) unlike when it was in the rear corner, and, the bass is even stronger than when it was in the rear, another plus. Unfortunately, this doesn't ...

Re: Table Tuba build!!
I've listened to the system without the sub plugged in before and no bass comes from that corner.

Re: Table Tuba build!!
Both the AVR and sub amp have x-overs set at 60hz and 80hz relative to the two graphs I posted. From what I gather, with two x-overs inline, the drop off should be significantly steeper than what is shown.

Re: Table Tuba build!!
Here are two more I just took, purple graph is 60hz x-overs and blue graph is with 80hz x-overs.

Re: Table Tuba build!!
Thanks for the recent thoughts guys, I still think something is amiss with my setup. I did a quick run with REW, a sweep from 30hz to 150hz, mains disconnected. Some of the folks on another forum think the roll off should be steeper with the two x-overs inline (AVR and sub amp), what do you guys thi...

Re: Table Tuba build!!
I still don't freakin' understand.... how come I can clearly tell that my sub is in the corner, ESPECIALLY during music. What am I doing or not doing that is causing this?

Re: Table Tuba build!!
Figured I'd give a little update as I did a little playing around... I decided to test-move the sub to the front of the room, mouth aiming at the front left corner, turned up the LFE output level a few db in the receiver to get the 75 db at my listening position and WHAT A DIFFERENCE that has made! ...

Re: Table Tuba build!!
Thank you guys for all of your help, In the near future I will try to set up REW and see what this amp is letting by, but. for now, I added a 30hz FMOD I had lying around and lowered the sub level in the AVR to -12db which translated to around 10db actual. All in all, the bass isn't as strong for ob...

Re: Table Tuba build!!
If I take decibel readings with the current settings, I get the same volume output from the sub as I do with the mains. Could I still be running my sub too hot? It does seem like it's louder than it should be sometimes but why if the output is the same as the fronts? Another note. Once I setup my sp...

Re: Table Tuba build!!
Given the sensitivity of the horn, maybe you need go the REW+DSP1124 or miniDSP route to really dial in your bass filters once and for all. Even if you can't solve your problem, a proper parametric EQ and steep filters can't hurt. I'm quite new to this kind of tuning. I kind of know where to start ...

Re: Table Tuba build!!
So, what you're saying out of all this is that if I had absolutely no tones above 80hz or so coming out of my sub, I should not be able to locate the bass regardless of placement?

Re: Table Tuba build!!
Alright, that makes sense. Now, is there any way I can test to see if there are any unwanted frequencies coming out of my sub?

Re: Table Tuba build!!
Bad placement doesn't result in the sub being locatable, that's purely a matter of midbass signal content that shouldn't be there. That's what I've been thinking all along but how come the bass is less localizable if I put the cab up front and very localizable when in the rear corner to my right? B...

Re: Table Tuba build!!
I understand about peaks and nulls but I'm pretty sure that isn't what I'm dealing with. When the sub is in that corner, yes, the bass is very directional, but vs all of the other feasible places in the room, it's also where the bass sounds the best or loudest/strongest. I just did a test and moved ...
