Re: Another budget driver option?

Where physical air movement is concerned that's seen on the Particle Velocity chart, which mirrors the excursion chart. In any event I wouldn't be concerned about throat pressure. When it's too high it results in harmonic distortion, not driver destruction. That comes with over excursion that reache...

Re: Best Bass Cab Combinations

KISS. Build Simplexx 12s and 212s. Renters can use one or two, depending on the output requirements. They look conventional enough so that those who listen with their eyes won't be put off by them.

I like 28ga for soldering to piezo lugs as it takes minimal heat.

If there's a better produced song than Steely Dan 'Aja' I haven't heard it.

In order for subs to keep up with tops they must be at least four times the net size as the tops. The reason why is 'Hoffman's Iron Law', and it applies to all subs, not just horns.

Re: Finally! Omni 12 Tall Boy build

Outdoors the lows aren't going to keep up as well as indoors, as they have no boundary reinforcement. With full PA it's not unusual to need twice the subs compared to indoors.

Re: Another budget driver option?

We high pass and limit so that the driver isn't stressed. A side benefit is that abnormally high throat pressure, which causes distortion, doesn't occur.

Re: Another budget driver option?

Throat pressure will be highest where excursion is highest. As is the case with ported enclosures that coincides with where electrical impedance is highest, while excursion is lowest where impedance is lowest.

Re: Finally! Omni 12 Tall Boy build

Grant mentioned in another thread the RED marked post on the APT is not + oh man I missed that detail for sure. So does it matter if the protection cap is on the negative if just reverse the polarity at the amp? I think they are in phase but I will test this to be sure. Read my reply. The same proc...

Re: Crossover help

One can't assume correct tweeter polarity. The plans take that into account.

Re: I think i messed up Crossover parts

The power rating doesn't matter, DCR does. The smallest gauge possible recommendation only applies to the high pass filter, not the low pass filter for the woofers. Assuming this is for the low pass the DCR of 3.9 ohms is too high. Using an air core you need at least a 16 gauge coil to get to 2 ohms...

Re: Curvearray questions

Putting them in front will cause some loss of upper midrange. Frequencies with a wavelength significantly greater than the diameter of the tweeters will go around them, but frequencies with a wavelength shorter than that won't.

On axis. There is no on axis from the woofer with the O12 baffle configuration. The stock crossover to the tweeter is 2.5kHz, as the midrange works well to that.

I'd do 16 inch. With one or two wider is better, but four 16 inch is the same as two 32 inch.

Re: Driver suitability for TTLS

They should work as well as the Dayton, especially in a narrow cab. Using four of them I'd do that.
