Re: TLAH sound
I should have used hot water on the wood before using the stain Can you elaborate on this, or link a technique, I'm interested in experimenting with different finishes, and know zero about staining. Hot water raises the little whiskers that hide in the grain of the wood, so they can be sanded off. ...

Re: Hello. New member looking for advice on club system build.
Regarding the acoustics, any hard surface is a problem, be it walls, floors, ceilings or windows. Some things you can't fix, like floors in a commercial setting. That makes it more critical that the rest be non-reflective. That can be accomplished with drapes on the walls and windows, flame proof of...

Re: OmniTop 12 build
That lip is far too small to have any effect. Anything less than a quarter wavelength in dimension is invisible to sound waves. A quarter wavelength at 2kHz is 1.9 inches.

Re: TLAH sound
The sensitivity is something else and the way they can make a voice really sound authentic and real is very cool. When someone comes into my house when I have the TV on they think that the voices they hear coming from the living room are actual people in the living room, not the TV. It's something ...

Before break in the suspension and spider are stiff, so Fs is higher than after they break in. The peaks and valleys are room sourced. My chart doesn't have them because I measured mine outdoors. Mic/listening position makes a world of difference as well: http://ethanwiner.com/believe.html

Re: TLAH sound
No, because baffle step is a red herring. It reduces sensitivity by 6dB above where the baffle is 1 wavelength in dimension. That's all well and good if the speaker is used outdoors away from buildings, but it ignores what happens when the speaker is in a room. EQ is what you use, as it takes the ro...

Re: Australian Options - Suppliers / Drivers etc
The mob is "Ply Online", their 1/4 or 6mm is 5 ply (the plans specify 3 only). Just wondering if because the 5mm is "bendy" and 1mm thinner, whether it's strong enough, and if it we can use it, which grain is best, cross or long? I could make the 8mm work, but is 2mm going to up...

Vd is 139.7cc. The Vd of an average eight, like the Dayton DCS205-4, is 180cc. The Dayton also has lower Fs. It's not a driver that I'd use.

Re: David build
It's not the midranges, since the crossover is at 200Hz. Those deep peaks and valleys are classic boundary effect. The good news is that they're not severe. Using EQ to boost the nulls and reduce the peaks should do the trick. The response you have to 30Hz most speakers, at any price, can only dream...

There's no advantage to foam over polyester batting when they're of equal thickness.

Re: Help picking sub, TTLS, Auto, or Tuba 18
At the minimum TTLS, two of them. Anything smaller won't add significant content, if any, to Cornwalls. Subs must be larger, a lot larger, than mains, not smaller.
