You might want to look at the Yung 500 watt plate amps. They are on sale at Parts Express now. I just picked one up - haven't used it yet though.

I have another HL10c I will be using for the TT. The plate amp is rated for 500w @ 4ohms but the TT will present an 8ohm impedance. If you do all of the cutting on the weekend, you should be able to install 1 panel a day. They only take 15 minutes to install and clamp. I built mine a little at a time and I think its better to do it this way to give the rest of the panels time to dry.

I used 5-ply 1/2" Arauco from Lowes for $26 a sheet on my Table Tuba. It seemed to be a good compromise between cost and quality. I like working with it much better than MDF. That dust from MDF is awful.
