Re: 8" vs 10" truck Tuba
Success. Much more linear than expected. Louder too so amp gain needs to come down. This amp has 32hz cutoff. Model shows a bump at 30hz, before it drops off like brick wall. But I was going to swap the with the ACM 1.300, which will reduce power to 150 RMS @ 4 ohms, lower the cutoff filter to 24hz a...

Re: 8" vs 10" truck Tuba
I don't know if having the driver in the mouth magically makes it a tapped horn or not It doesn't. A tapped horn has no rear chamber. They're considerably more difficult to design than other horns, because of the phase relationships between the front and rear waves. Most of those that I've seen are...

Re: 8" vs 10" truck Tuba
I would love that response in my kei van. ^^^ I notice things improve when I open the sunroof. I think the boxy interior volume in this particular van is not ideal.

"I think car audio is a fantastic environment to enjoy music, if not one of the best! I really appreciate when I can get everything dialed in just right. Always puts a smile on my face. And really, what other place can you really give'r all you want, even with relative moderation, without distu...

Re: 8" vs 10" truck Tuba
I got this for my home sub (exodus anarchy tapped horn). https://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-dsp-lf-low-frequency-dsp-controller--230-520 I haven't used it yet. But it looks like it would work in a car. It just has those cheesy 3.5mm jacks, probably because of its diminutive size. If you want...

Re: 8" vs 10" truck Tuba
Thanks. I thought about the Dayton DSP but if the kicker key amp includes DSP and a mic, it's a no brainer. I'm sure it's a fine unit. Ideally, I would prefer a single chassis solution- 5 channels and onboard DSP. That's cool you are getting response down to the 20s. I probably should had built with...

Re: 8" vs 10" truck Tuba
Slam- I always thought it was a good quality. I agree that some terms of art are probably misused. And some distortion artifacts may actually be desired. A little group delay and a peak at 60 hz are some that I think I like a little of. I do like the un-boxy effortless sound. subsonic filter at 32 h...

Re: 8" vs 10" truck Tuba
Sorry I have not been back in awhile. I got the system done and forgot all about you guys! I ended up using the Kicker Key amp- which comes with DSP and onboard calibration mic and costs about $200 on PE. Did I mention this $200 amp includes DSP? It's a 4 channel and I was using it to run a full act...

Re: 8" vs 10" truck Tuba
Tested and I have a bad driver. The UM8 is a dual 2ohm VC and I wired it in series to yield a 4ohm load and tested with an old MCM plate sub plate amp that I have used for years. There is some mechanical coupling internally that is hitting the cone. So while it plays the mechanical noise is a non st...

Re: 8" vs 10" truck Tuba
SethRocks that's a very cool build- using two drivers mounted on the side panel. Perhaps the TAT should should also be called the "Trunk Auto Tuba." How many liters does that move. I have been making progress with my kei van project- 6" depth. I am tempted to try my Exodus Anarchy TH ...

Re: 8" vs 10" truck Tuba
o.k. The UM8 is ordered. I found some 6.5" that have been sitting on shelf for at least 10 years.
Anyone remember a/d/s? I'll try these first since they are there.

Re: 8" vs 10" truck Tuba
Here is what I will be dealing with. This car needs a serious detail. So between that and the overkill car audio project that should keep me busy for the covid-19 doldrums. I'll just leave the factory 4x6s alone. I al looking at the lower door area, which concave into a triangular shape. It's bare s...

Re: 8" vs 10" truck Tuba
That 9conductor wire seems like a swell deal. I see that PE has a buyout of a 4"x6" that they are calling a "subwoofer." I will upload a photo soon. It's a very challenging vehicle to get decent soundstage. If the truck tuba sub has decent output, I am going to need decent mid ba...

Re: 8" vs 10" truck Tuba
Oh this is all good news. It seems these days I have nothing but time to overthink this stuff. At the risk of getting admonished for going off topic, any help would be appreciated for the remainder of the system: head unit, DSP and midbass solution. I'm encouraged by the low power thing in car audio...

Re: 8" vs 10" truck Tuba
Thanks. I was getting 3,376 because I didn't convert 16 into 1.6. Math. I'm guessing 337cc would, in theory, have higher output than the TB's 260cc but identical sound quality to TB or the $30 MCM driver. I would still think the UM8 would be better due to the increased RMS (thermal) rating. I would ...
