Re: Glue Test on Baltic Birch

Good discussion and I've learned a thing or two. I have added a new test just with Titebond II and Locktite PL Premium. I let both joints cure for 7 days. This is just a small 1" butt joint so it would break within the limits of my digital scale. PL break point = 6.7 LBS - had a bit of give bef...

Re: Glue Test on Baltic Birch

I will give PL a try - I thought it was similar to Gorilla glue - being a polyurethane glue, so I considered PL equal to Gorilla glue but I guess that is NOT the case. I've always had good luck with Titebond II and, in my simple testing, was as strong as the wood itself. The yellow glue just cleans ...

Glue Test on Baltic Birch

After having one of my horns break after dropping a cabinet from about 3 feet, I decided to do a glue test. Granted, it's not the most scientific and I could have used a larger sample set but it gave me a reasonable idea of the strength of the different glues I use. I had built a horn out of 1/2&quo...

rotozip tool for cutting holes

Don't bother. This is with the rotozip circle guide tool - It makes terrible cuts. The plastic base has too much play to make a perfect circle. I had better luck with doing it by had with a jig saw.

Duratex spray screw-up and recovery

Boy, did I screw up my first attemp at spraying on Duratex. I bought the spray version, got the proper hopper gun and... I turned down the pressure at the gun to about 25 but I used too big of nozzel and it really laid it on. The surface ended up with a very heavy moon like surface. Might have been ...

Omnitop 215 as bass guitar speaker

I just finished an OT215 and gave it a try with my Ampeg SVT 4 pro in bridged mode. I have a Ampeg 810E, an Ampeg 410HLF, and an Ampeg Pro 15. It sounds more like the old school 8x10 - the low end was not a strong as the ported HLF cab was but MAN was it loud. Both the OT215 and the HLF are 4 ohms s...

If you really wanted to go nuts, you could put in a dowel that is larger than your t-nut--like 3/4". Drill the hole for your bolt in the dowel and mount the t-nut before you glue the dowel into place. You'd have to be really careful that you got the hole for the bolt in the right place, but I ...

For an extreme emegency repair on a Titan, I had to plug the old T-nut hole, and put two sturdy wood screws with a metal bracket that clamped down on the rim of the driver on each side of the old hole. Seems to still be working. For "sturdy wood screws" I mean a short 3/16" lag bolt w...

Thanks. Now, on to some DRs.... I think. I'm debating on dual O15s or the DR280 or 290. The O15 sure seems a lot easier to build however. I've been reading every post on this forum about the differences and I'm still not sure which way I will go right now. I think that either way, I'll be better off...

Titan 48 build

I put up some pics of my first ever Bill Fitzmaurice cabinet build. I had built some EAW LA118 clones last year for my band but discovered I needed some folded horns!

So I set about building the T48.
