Amps

I am in the process of building OT12's and t30 subs (4 of each), but will only use 2 OT12's for smaller gigs
I have a QSC 1850HD and a QSC GX5 for amps
I have one pair of OT12's almost done (Deltalite 2512 drivers w/arrays)
Then I am going to finish building the 4 T30's (4012HO drivers)

My question is, which amp should I use for the tops and which for the subs
Can I push 4 t30's with the GX5?

So I will be the first to reply to my own thread
here is what I know ( I think, please correct me if I am wrong)

GX5 does 700w/channel @4ohms
1850HD does 600w/channel @4 ohms

deltalite 2512 is a 250w driver
250 x 8 (ohms) = 2000
square root of 2000 is 45 (volts from amp)
so half power would be 22.5volts

4012HO driver is a 600w driver
600 x 8 = 4800
square root of 4800 is 69 (volts)
half power is 35 volts

So is this noob heading in the right direction

You know what driver takes more power

What you need to figure is which amp will provide the power without over-working itself. IMHO, use the 1850HD on the subs, and the GX5 for the tops. Even though the 1850 provides less power, it is build with a more powerful power supply, and will not sweat the work-load of the subs.

The 4012HO drivers will definitly take more power than the deltalites
What you say makes sense, I would agree that the 1850 is a heavier duty amp

Did I come up with the right volts for the drivers?

I figured out what I was doing wrong with the math

Half power = starting with half of the drivers rating....duh

4012HO use 300w
and
2512 use 125w
this gets me 48.98v for half power on the 4012HO
and 31.62v for the 2512
