Handles and Driver mounting - which H nuts and screws?

Helpful hints on how to build 'em, and where to get the stuff you need.

Handles and Driver mounting - which H nuts and screws?

#1 Post by rwalkerphl »

Hi all,

More newbie questions here... I hope you don't mind.

1. I am thinking about using surface mounted handles (per the plan) to my O10 cabs. Should I use H nuts (10/32?) mounted from the inside? If so, what screws (type and size) should I use to attach the the handles from the outside?

2. I am using 2510's in the build, how should I attach them to the baffle? H Nuts on the rear side, and again, what screws (size and type)?

Thanks!
Robin.

I would always use bolts when mounting the driver. I've used hurricane nuts in the past but since someone dropped the tip of using the bolt to pull the t-nut in place, I get them straight everytime, so won't be using anything else in future.

The same goes for handles. I've used screws in the past given that my cabs aren't moved often, so the stress on the handle is less. Since the t-nut tip, I'll be using those next time. When using t-nuts in handles you have to be more careful with placement to ensure it doesn't obstruct an internal panel. You also need an airtight seal between your bolt and nut.

I alway use M5 bolts.

Chris.

10-32 x 1-1/4 up to 1 3/4 for the driver, 10-32x1 round head for the handles. Just put them on each handle corner, use sheet metal screws for the rest. Socket head cap screws are the best. Machine screws will work, but are pretty easy to tear out the head when pulling as hard as we do on the drivers.

With the light weight of neo drivers I think screws are OK. In the O10 I'd use screws long enough to go through the baffle into the braces, but you have to take care with those that would go into the horn throat and be visible, assuming you don't have a full grille. With handles screws are OK where they can be driven though the side into the braces, but otherwise bolts are better.

Hi Bill,

Does that mean I don't need to use hurricane nuts?

Thanks,
Robin.

You have the option of using either screws or bolts.

Thanks again. I have gone for the H Nuts and bolts as this is my first build, just o be sure it all stays together well.
