Duratex, Warnex, Tuffcab

Hi all,

For my 4x DR200 and 2x T48 build I'm looking for some paint. As we all know, Duratex equals unobtainium over here in Europe, so I'm looking for alternatives.

I know Warnex and Tuffcab are comparable with Duratex. Problem is: Warnex is €190 (= US$303) per 12 kg, Tuffcab is £100 (= €124 = US$198) per 25 kg !! :shock: Tuffcab comes from Bluearan (http://www.bluearan.co.uk/menu/index.ph ... dnew=Paint), but they only ship within the UK :( . I e-mailed them last week for options, but still no response whatsoever :? .

Now I don't know the exact difference in covering ability and 'toughness' of the two, but Tuffcab seems a helluvalot cheaper :? .

Any suggestions anyone? Someone in the UK willing to ship a bucket to The Netherlands?

Am I about right in assuming I need 12 kg Warnex for 4 DR200 + 2 T48's? :?:

I'm currently trying some concrete floor paint on scrap ply. First impressions:
- easy to apply with a roller
- "regular" roller appears to give thinner coating than Duratex / Warnex / Aldcroft's
- needs several coats to fill the grain (more grain than birch on the scrap)
- seems more resistant to damage than regular paint, don't know how it compares to Duratex

I want to apply one or two more layers with a textured roller, see how that looks.

It seems Aldcroft do not ship their smallest containers, but 12 or 25 kg might work out fine. Have you contacted them directly? Seems they are nice people to deal with, but very busy. So they may not take the time to answer every email from folks buying small quantities. I think a phone call gives better chance of answers than email.

Try that painter's "Texture Sand" if you want a thicker, textured coat. I had good luck with it in floor paint - though not as good as truck bedliner.

Thicker means "dries slower" for many paints.

Ive used the stuff from bluearan and also the stuff from aldcrofts. as far as i can see they are identical. the 5kg plastic tubs are exactly the same and i hav mixed them on a cab with no ill effects.
-1 for thought terminating cliches.

Thats because Aldcrofts make it for Bluearan....... :wink:

I'd be happy to ship a bucket of Tuffcab to the Netherlands for you. It looks like around £17 for up to a 9kg package, and £20 for a 10kg-14kg.

I need to place an order with BlueAran anyway, so it shouldn't cost much to get the stuff to me in the first place.

I tried to order via their website. I could actually order it and there was a shipping option for Europe mainland, BUT :( ... when I clicked 'proceed' the shipping costs were left out in the Paypal overview. I guess they wouldn't do me the favour of shipping 25kg for free :lol: . So I called them and explained what happened. They said to just order it, and wait for someone to contact me on the right amount... which I'm doing now (after mailing them my ordernumber and problem).

If it doesn't work out, I think I'm gonna make an appeal to you, Richard :wink: .

I'd ask them to supply a couple of 5kg tubs instead when they get in contact re shipping, cos 25kg.... wow!

Dave Perry went to Aldcroft's and asked (seems he lives right around the corner). At the time they didn't ship the 5kg containers abroad anymore, too many got damaged or lost, iirc. Things may have changed since, so it never hurts to ask.

It seems a lot smoother than Aldcrofts, Warnex or Duratex, which seem to give more texture. Good enough for hiding away in the car trunk though.
