I finnally finished my dr 280s. I was running two carvin trx cabs per side, which I did tri-amp and thought was a pretty good cab. The one thing I really noticed was that the carvins had some dead spots in them when you walked side to side, where the dr's are solid. Thank god the TRX's aren't mine, the band I work for bought them. I am floored by how smooth the dr's are, and how loud, and they are clear.
I have to be honest, one of the only reasons I built the 280's instead of the 300's is I just had to hear the piezo array for mysef. I am still dumbfounded and very pleased(I only ran 8 on each side).
The place we played was a nightmare to run sound in but they did good. When I first tried them out at my shop they sounded really good, and the next place we play is a pretty good room to work in so I am exited. Now I have a couple of extra amps in case I need them(which is great). I just want to say that if you don't need a lot of volume, a pair of dr250s would be plenty because one pair of 280s can keep up with 4 trx cabs tri-amped. they aren't much louder, but they sound so much better and have such a punch they are all you need. They are definately worth the time.
One other thing I have to say is you better know how to run an EQ and if not buy a proccesor that will do some of it for you because mine was all over the place compared to my old front loaded cabs, but once they are tuned in they are gold.

A big +1 to this...or just check out the EQ section for examples of required EQ for a fairly 'flat' response (hufftoast can you post your eq as a comparison to the one I have posted)hufftoast wrote: ....One other thing I have to say is you better know how to run an EQ and if not buy a processor that will do some of it for you because mine was all over the place compared to my old front loaded cabs, but once they are tuned in they are gold.
Hopefully the retrofit DR280 plug and filter components should smooth out performance a little...I am hopefully going to get this mod done to my DR280's in the next few weeks.
