Limited availability of recommended drivers here in New Zealand has me scratching. As much as I would like to oder a discount Dayton HF the shipping kills it.

Fs 19 to 30hz not hard to find with good Xmax
Qts 0.3 to 0.5 gets rid of most
Vas 100 to 300 knocks me.

Kicker are well distributed here but the only one that wouldn't be a special order is Kicker 48CWR152
Fs 29hz
Qts 0.46
Vas 97 booh hiss?

Its brother 2x4ohm version 48CWR154 squeaks over the line with Vas 103. That's a special order. 6l of extra would make how much difference? :fruit:

Otherwise 52CVR152 special order and a little pricier.
Fs 25.6
Qts 0.45
Vas 127

They are all 20mm Xmax or thereabouts.

Related question. I think I read something about there being extra mounting depth.in THTLP vs THT? Any of the Kickers are knocking on 8" mounting depth but will need a collar flange as they are decorative on their own fronts.

That makes the back of the driver flange more or less at the rear face of the baffle. About 8.5" to the back of the magnet. Bigger than usual hatch door. Is that possible?

Tentative plan is for a 24" wide THTLP bench seat to host visitors at my man cave. Power from old PA amp on idle, high and low passed.

Aiming for extension rather than crazy volume. Could go 30" plus foot stools if that can salvage anything from operating in outer limits of specs.

Hello, i used to have a tht with a cvx12 kicker drivers from back in my car audio days. Worked really well.
It now lives in a tuba 30 in my workshop. It has no problem annoying the neighbours.

I found a build thread showing the driver chamber. Looks like plenty of depth but the limiting dimension on the collar arrangement is the 18" width. Is that 18 - panel thicknesses = 17" across inside or is 18" the mouth opening width?

It's 18" external, 17" internal height for the driver chamber. Obviously the width will be whatever you want up to 35". There's about 11" of depth between the baffle and the rear door, so you should be fine.

There's an "extended driver surround" option in the plans that would probably work for your situation. I used it on mine to fit a 12" driver, mostly to give me the option to move to a 15" if I ever decide to. But you can see it here:

First off look at hi-fi drivers, not auto sound. Auto sound drivers in general are not suited to horn loading. Their huge magnets and surrounds and high Qts are intended for small inefficient sealed boxes. Second, there's no need for xmax of 20mm. Anything over 12mm is superfluous.

Auto sound is the main market for raw drivers. If they publish the specs and they are in range are they not hifi drivers with poser paint jobs?

There's no Dayton or GSS here. I trudged through loads of spec lists and only the one Kicker in stock came within cooee. Other brands had Qts .7 .8 and or way less Vas.

So I was wondering if Qts in the higher end of the range and Vas just a smidge below would be better ignored in favour of one with Vas 6l more and over the line.

They are getting me prices on the two I posted specs on. I have a feeling the one with the larger Vas might be silly money but still half of getting a Dayton shipped privately.

Kicker 48CWR152
Fs 29hz
Qts 0.46
Vas 97
This one is looking like the winner unless they come back with a sharp price on special imports.

I'm sure it'll work fine! Be sure to post some pics when you start the build!
