Hi All,

I've been given a 15" Peavey Black Widow driver and I am considering putting it into a Jack 15 Lite.
It ticks all the boxes for TS parameters - except the important one.
Xmax is only 2.8mm - which I was quite surprised by. I would expect it to have been much higher.
Can anybody give me an idea what the maximum power handling would be with that driver in a Jack 15 Lite?
I already have plenty of suitable plywood, so if the driver can be made to work then it would effectively be a free cab.
Intended use will be bass guitar with a low to moderate powered head.

Two things.....

1. Power handling is all about excursion and excursion is all about how low you want to go. If you don't dime the bottom end, you should be fine. You'll hear it start to fart out if you're hitting it too hard.

2. Doesn't a 20 pound speaker kinda' defeat the whole "Lite" thing?

It will hit xmax at 25 watts.

Sounds like its not worth it then.
I take your point about the lite thing - but I enjoy the woodworking and then at least I know it's as light as I could have made it. (i.e. it's not my fault it weighs so much )

They have been putting Black Widows in their bass amps for decades. I'd give it a try. Worst that happens is that it won't go loud enough before farting out.....then, just put in a better driver......

It won't fart out the moment it reaches Xmax. Drivers can be pushed past Xmax and still sound quite acceptable. Technically, the further Xmax is exceeded the distortion increases. Although, distortion that can be measured can't always be heard. Even if it can be heard, it doesn't always sound bad. Sometimes it sounds good and is intentionally created. Take a look at some of the guitar amp driver Xmax specs sometime.

I'd absolutely give it a go. Especially given your intended use as a Bass Guitar cab.

Hi - thanks for everyones input.
I've had a good think and rather than use the 15, I'll buy a 10 or maybe a 12. That will just be easier to store and carry and will have plenty of output for what we need.
