Dr2xx HF alternatives (Europe ship.)

#1 Post by Camillo »

Hi!
Since shipment from US is approx the same amount as 32 piezos, what alternatives or resellers in Europe would you suggest?

For instance:
https://www.soundimports.eu/en/grs-pz1016.html

https://www.soselectronic.com/en/produc ... 1016-52453

Anyone found any good ones?

Have you looked in the suppliers links section?

There's a whole thread dedicated to suppliers in Europe there:
viewtopic.php?t=4140

IIRC the Monacor 1016 from Thoman.de is the closest to the goldwood, and I'm not sure about now, but used to do flat rate shipping capped at 50 euro.
Thoman (and blue aran in the UK) are also the preferred Eminence distributors in Europe...
Built:
DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.
T39's: 4 x 20" KL3010LF , 2 x 28" 3012LF.
WH8: x 6 with melded array wired series/parallel.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...

Hi, thanks!
Yes i've checked the thread but it's many years old now., and The topic is wide. Should be a lot of resellers selling other copies and alikes, perhaps somwone tested other brands? :)

Hi, im not sure where you live, but im from Sweden and i tried the Rila SA 16 for my SLA PRO when it was on closeout on Hifikit.se
I think i gave around 1.5€ per driver, now they are 6€ :(
Its a bit different than Goldwood/Monacor but it was a 1/6 of the price then so i gave it a shot, it also needs to reglue the driver to the horn because half of them was loose.
I dont hear any real problem with them in a array of 6, but i have no reference either...
I would like to try the GRS PZ1016 model from Soundimports.eu to compare, but never had the time yet.

Ah, same here, where in sweden? I am still not sure which ones i should build from the dr200 and omni12 but if i run the grs pz1016 we could compare? I will search the web even more when its time to build and order. The ones in the links i posted seem to be copies from the older recommended HF unit so maybe they will work🤷‍♂️ have you posted your builds anywhere to be seen? I live in Småland.

Fun to find another Swede here!! I live in Örebro, Närke.
You can find my SLA PRO build under my profile i think.
Built that, and the other in my signature.
Would love to compare cabs in the future, the SLA PRO 4x6 is an amazing little cab outdoors, sound travels so much better, wider and longer compared to standard 12/1" PA tops.
You could send me a PM, easier to write in swedish :)

I understand.
Because of shipping costs from the USA, my last build using piezo's (3 x WH 8's) I obtained locally available Daichi 1016's, thinking they would all be the same.
They're not. The Daichi's are adequate, the Goldwoods are way better.

It's already been discovered that the Goldwood and Manacor versions are the go to types.
If you're going to compare, you have to compare to one of those 2...

Would These be an alternative? Reason is i can get them fairly cheap, unused second hand for about 9-13$/piece and he is selling 20 of them. Dont know if they would fit the horn. Would arraying be an option?

Does the wattage of 20w (40w) make it unusable?
Or perhaps the sensitivity?. Fs is a bit lower than asd but still in range

Forget them.
Because of their (lack of) power handling.

That's assuming they are like everyone else and inflate their power handling specs...

To try and revive this old discussion, I wondered if you ever did try out the GRS Piezos from sound imports ? Or, Is there any one on here who has first hand experience of these?

Im soon going to embark (very slowly) on a pair of dr200s for my ever unfinished 12v build, and these are less then a third of the price of the Monacors..... if i find they are no good, i think i will build with compression drivers instead.

Cheers, Kairos

I didn't. Went with the cd-horns, second hand, instead. As I think it was Grant Who had both versions and in the end prefered them because of the 1.2khz option. I'm satisfied with them. If(when?) i build more i might try the piezos out of curiosity. Where are you located? :)

What setup woud you suggest to compare two single piezos without a cab or crossover?
hipass some music with a dsp ? then send it to them respectively making sure volume not to exceed whatever the max voltage is and have a listen?

The crossover high pass you'd need sooner or later, so build it. Use a pink noise source, which you can get as a download. Take an RTA of each, swapping them without changing anything else. Even a freeware RTA app is sufficient for comparison. I have this on my phone: https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... yzer&pli=1
