I just finished up a pair of SLA's for my living room stereo setup. I bought the parts for these many years ago but never made the time to get these done. The actual boxes were easy enough to make, but finishing them out nicely was a fair bit of work. Here are some photos from the build.
I wanted to do a paint finish so I opted to use MDF for the boxes. Nasty stuff to work with, but it's easy to find and consistent. I used a jigsaw to cut the mid driver holes and cleaned with up with an OSS. The tweeter holes were done with a forstner bit.
It took several coats of primer and paint to get a smooth, professional looking paint job, but I'm pretty happy with the result.
It was tedious work wiring up all those driver's. I have 2 sets of binding posts. One that goes straight to the crossover, and another that passes the signal through a 120 hz high pass filter. My current amp does not have an active crossover, but I might upgrade in the future.
I had to make a 45 degree french cleat bracket thingy to mount these on the wall.
Here they are properly mounted and ready to rock. I love the way they sound! They really bring out all the detail in a recording. The sound fills up the room nicely even at lower volumes. I have never had a stereo system of this quality before and it's a real treat. Next up is a small table tuba

Re: SLA
Nice!
Once you've built the TT, you might want to move that glass display cabinet out of the room.
Just sayin...
