HT setup using T24

#1 Post by T_Gowan »

I have been intending to do this for a while. So hooked up my 2 16wide T24 to my new HT receiver with a small Yamaha PA amp. I was disappointed to see the only setting I could change for the sub was volume and distance. I can hear where my subs are coming from which makes me feel the Low pass to the sub is too high. I may have to introduce a filter to check this. My Mackie has independent Hi and Low pass filters on the output DL1608.
Have been using a ported 12 sub intended for recording music so not really a HT sub to begin with.

Whats the HT receiver? Distance must be for time correction, but there should be some sort of crossover or eq for the LF channel. Pro sound and HT sound are different animals

I think that you are correct. On page 34 of the manual it seems to indicate that only the subwoofer w/amp provides the level and crossover point.

Low pass disabled
Low pass disabled
Low pass on
Low pass on
So there is no control of Low pass. I used my DL1608 with RTA to show what is happening. With not low pass there is content all the way up to 500, very minimal but its there. With the Low pass at 100 the you can see the result. The sound is complexly different. No to search out some solution to this.

Any affordable suggestions LOL

When you crank it there is content all the way up the spectrum. Filter removes it all.

That's bizarre. My Sony STR-DH550 provides independent adjustment of the filter frequencies for the L/C/R, surrounds and sub.

Even with Mini DSP there's no provision to high pass the mains. The technical term that describes this situation is AFU.

"It’s preconfigured to adjust high/low pass filters and gain settings with the onboard potentiometers, but unlock its full potential by combining it with the Dayton Audio ICP1 (sold separately). Explore almost limitless possibilities of precise EQ, filters, bass processing, time alignment and so much more"

These high and low pass filters won't cut it?

With no high pass on the mains and surrounds they'll receive low frequencies that don't belong there. The sub out should provide LFE output if an LFE source is detected, which should be low passed at 80Hz, along with the low frequency content of the rest of the program material as defined by the crossover frequency. Since you're getting a full range signal out of the sub output my assumption is that you're also getting a full range signal to the rest of the speakers. Only Sony can say for sure.

According to a review 'The receiver comes with a calibration microphone for the auto-calibration system, which sets speaker sizes, levels, distances and EQ. This was fast and easy to use, and involves putting the included microphone in just one position. There was no check step at the end, so after it had finished I went to the ‘Speaker Settings’ and found that while the levels and distances seemed to be right, the speakers had all been set to ‘Large’, even the ceiling speakers. These two-way 8-inch Jamo models are very competent as far as ceiling speakers go, but I really don’t want them (nor any of my other speakers) trying to handle 20Hz signals. So I tweaked those settings manually'. It doesn't mention how to do so, but since it mentions 'Speaker Settings' there must be a way to access them.

I'm pretty sure the other speakers are being hi passed. It just expects the sub to feeding an amp with all the processing avaliable.
The RTA of the Sub out is being filtered to a large degree just not to the degree I require. The pass band is just way too broad
